Double Ring Ceremony Unites
Alicia Huffman—John Shell
OREGON TRAIL GRANGE
Members of Oregon Trail
Grange met in regular ses-
sion Thursday evening, May
18, with Harold Kurtz, Mas-
ter protem.
Mr. and Mrs. James Stephen
were
elected as delegates
to Oregon State Grange to be
held in Beaverton, June 12 to
16.
CWA Chairman Mrs. Frank
Holub announced that the next
club meeting will be held Tues­
day, June 6, at the home of
Mrs. Eric Boenig with Mrs.
Orland Cheldelin as co-hos-
tess. The roll call topic will
be “pet peeve,"
Chaplain Orma Cleaver led
the memorial service and was
assisted by Clara Price. Lois
Boenig was the soloist.
County Deputy Dale Teter
was a visitor.
Refreshments were served
by the Linegar and Thomas
couples.
The next regular grange
meeting will be held Thurs-
day, June 1, at 8:30 p.m.
POMONA GRANGE
On the evening of April 27,
1972, Alicia Huffman, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Huffman
of Nyssa, became the bride of
John Michael Shell, son of Mr.
and Mrs.
Le Verne Shell
of Nyssa.
The candlelight, double-ring
ceremony was performed by the
Rev. Melvin Dennis of Ontario,
at the United Methodist Church
in Nyssa.
The altar was flanked on
each side by candelabras with
tall tapers amid a daisy floral
arrangement.
Providing the
wedding music was Mrs. Kinsey
Kevern.
Wearing an empire styled
gown of antique white satin, the
bride was given in marriage by
her father. The high neckline
and long fitted sleeves were
enhanced with lace and pearls.
The gown featured a chapel train
edged with pearls. Her veil of
illusion was held to a pleated
satin headdress. She carried a
Colonial style bridal bouquet
of yellow daisies and white
roses
with matching satin
streamers, The gown was de­
signed and made by Mrs. Fred
Plowhead, aunt of the bride,
Maid of honor was La Rae
Ashby and bridesmaidwas Mrs.
Dan Hiatt. Both attendants were
attired in green checked ging­
ham gowns ornamented with
white daisies. They carried
bouquets of white daisies with
yellow centers.
David Shell was best man
for his brother. Tom Huff­
man and Kirby Huffman ushered
the 94 guests, and Dan Hiatt
served as groomsman.
Lighting the candles prior
to the service were Charlie
Shell and Rikki Simler. Ring
bearer was Brent Huffman.
For her daughter’s wedding
Mrs. Huffman chose a pastel
pink dress with sheer sleeves,
and she wore a pink carnation
corsage. The bridegroom’s mo­
ther wore a white knit dress
accented with navy blue and her
corsage was of blue and pink
carnations.

Science Program
Laurie Stunz, a Nyssa High
School Junior, has been selected
to attend the Student Science
Training Program, sponsored
by the National Science Foun­
dation, from June 19-July 28
at the College of Idaho.
To be eligible to participate
students must have high ability
in science and math and be re­
commended by their school of­
ficials and teachers. The en­
tire costs of the instruction are
supplied by the National Science
Foundation.
Topics to be
covered Include atomic and
molecular structure, organic
structural formulas, functional
group concept
to organic
chemistry,
gas liquid chro­
matography and infrared spec­
troscopy.
Following the ceremony a re­
ception was held in the church
social hall. The white wedding
cake was fashioned in the shape
of a MalteseCrossandtrimmed
with yellow roses and green
leaves.
Assisting with the serving
were Mrs. Albert Cartwright,
Mrs. Gary Garrison, sister of
the bride, and Mrs. Glenn Sim-
ler, Mrs. Ray Huffman, Mrs.
Don Simler and Mrs. Marion
English, all aunts of the bride.
In charge of the guest book
was Miss Kathy Shell. Receiv­
ing and arranging the gifts were
the Misses Annie Simler, Ka­
therine Huffman, Mary Wahlert
and Kathy Noble.
When the couple left on a
wedding trip to McCall, the new
Mrs. Shell changed to a gold
pantsuit.
The bride is a graduate of
Nyssa High School and gra­
duated from Northwestern Col­
lege of Business in 1971. She
is presently employed by Dr.
G. T. Thebo, DMD in Parma.
Her husband also a Nyssa High
School graduate and a 1971
graduate of Oregon Technical
Institute is presently employed
at J. R. Simplot Soilbuilders,
Ontario.
The newlyweds are now at
home at Route 2, Nyssa.

#33 met Saturday evening, May
20, at Oregon Slope Grange Hall
with Master Dallas Chaney pre­
siding.
A Memorial service was led
by Chaplain Sophia Butler as-
isted by Effie Standage.
Guest speaker Ernest Seuell,
Farm Bureau, listed the num­
ber of ways in which farm or­
ganizations could work together
and suggested that members
from each group be appointed
to form a committee, and E.
B. Metcalf, Oregon Trail; Ted
Avery, Big Bend, and Dallas
Chaney, Pomona #33 were ap­
pointed to represent the Grange.
State Youth Chairman Judy
Andregg explained the pillow­
project
sponsored by young
grangers to raise money to send
a young grange couple to Na­
tional Grange. Members of dif­
ferent Malheur granges volun-
teered to help in making the
pillows.
A committee was appointed
to arrange for exemplification
of the Fifth Degree.
County Deputy Dale Teter
was elected Pomona delegate
to State Grange to be held in
Beaverton, June 12 to 16.
Refreshments were served
to approximately 45 members
from five granges by women
of Oregon Slope Grange. Tables
were decorated
with red
peonies.
Due to the date conflicting
with the Malheur County Fair
date, the next Pomona meeting
will be held at Ontario Hei­
ghts Grange Hall on Saturday
August 12 instead of August
19. Election of officers will
be in order and all m ambers are
urged to attend.

While in California Mrs. Cook
attended the wedding of her
grandson Gary Childs and Bobbi
Miller who were married in the
Jewish Synagogue in San Fran­
cisco. Before returning home
Monday, May 22, Mrs. Cook
visited for a few days with her
sister, Mrs. Sylvia Palmer in
Boise.

The bride-elect is a graduate

is attending Eastern Oregon
College. Her fiance is also at-
tending EOC and majoring in
pre-med.

tario. The couple plan to spend
the summer in John Day where
he is employed by the Forest
Service. They will return to
La Grande in the fall where
he will be a senior and she
will take nurses training.
