OPENING DATES SET FOR
1972 HUNTING SEASONS
Oregon hunters will begin
the general buck deer season
about a week later than usual
but the seasons for elk and
upland game birds follow the
traditional openings of the past.
This action was taken by the
Oregon Game Commission Fri
day, January 7, at a public
meeting in Portland scheduled
for the purpose of establishing
opening dates for the 1972
seasons.
The general buck season will
open Saturday, October 7. The
staff report indicated continued
high mortality on 1971 fawns,
especially on the mule deer
ranges of eastern Oregon. This
forecast promptedtheCommis-
sion to set the opening later
than usual and advised hunters
that the outlook is also for
a short deer season this fall.

license agencies for the conve
nience of the angler. The cards
also may be mailed directly to
the Game Commission or turned
in at any of its five regional
offices.
Koski said the record cards
provide the basis for calculating
the total catch as well as de
termining the catch by indivi
dual streams. He advised ang
lers that it is important that
all cards be returned to provide
