Garner—Skelton Marriage
Solemnized in Garden Setting
REBEKAH LODGES
DISTRICT MEETING
District #24 of Rebekah
Lodge’s was hosted by Yellow-
Rose Rebekah Lodge #202 in
Nyssa, October 16. Golden Rule
Lodge #64 Vale and Beatrice
Rebakah Lodge #82 Ontario as­
sisted.
The Nyssa Lodge opened in
regular format at 1 p.m Spe­
cial guests who were introduced
were Mavis Pauli, Rebekah As­
sembly President of Oregon, of
Portland, Arlene Young, Re­
bekah Assembly Secretary, of
Portland; Jessie Fozier, Past
President, LAPM of Idaho, On­
tario; Emily Clapp, District
Deputy President of District
#24.
During Good of the Order Dis­
trict officers took the chairs;
Blanche Weeks from Yellow-
Rose #202, chairman; Neota
Sperling of Golden Rule #64,
vice chairman; Merle Johnson,
Yellow Rose #202, secretary­
treasurer.
Seventeen past chairmen were
introduced and presented gifts.
Lovely corsages were presented
to each of the District officers.
A corsage with money leaves
was presentedto Assembly Pre­
sident Mavis Pauli.
New officers elected for next
year were Neota Sperling, Vale
#64, chairman; Hazel Leavitt,
Ontario #82, vice-chairman;
Georgia Clark, Vale #64, secre­
tary-treasurer.
After renewal of obliga­
tions and reports new officers
were seated by Assembly Presi­
dent Mavis Pauli and Assembly
Secretary, Arlene Young.
The meeting was adjourned
for the banquet at 6:30 p.m.
Golden Rule #64 opened evening
meeting at 8 p.m. Mavis Pauli
president gave an inspiring talk.
Beatrice #82 closed in
form and Rebakahs are to meet
at Vale next year for their dis­
trict meeting.

In a garden settingat the home
of the bride’s grandparents, Mr.
and Mrs. Delbert Garner, Ka­
therine Lynne Garner became
the bride of Mark Noel Skelton.
The double-ring ceremony was
performed September 18, 1971
at 7 p.m. by Bishop Reed Ray
of the Nyssa LDS First Ward.
Baskets of orange and yellow
gladioli added to the garden
decor.
The bride is the daughter of
Mrs. Wilma Garner of Nyssa
and Wayne J. Garner of Port­
land. The bridegroom’s parents
are Mr. and Mrs. Leon Skel­
.
ton of Portland.
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride wore a floor­
length gown of white polyester
crepe. It was sculptured into
a fitted bodice, with an A-line
skirt, long fitted sleeves and a
cowl neckline. The bodice front
was enhanced with a bibbed
vest of hand dyed African satin,
in hues of blue sapphire to mid­
night blue. The fabric was a
gift to the bride from Wadai
Bright of Liberia West Africa,
one of the bride’s college room­
mates. She carried a nosegay
of yellow roses, marigolds and
babies breath and wore a wreath
of marigolds in her hair.
Roxanne Mason attended as
maid of honor. Bridesmaids
were Karen Zerbel, Anita
Piercy and Patty Lowe. The
attendants all wore dresses of
identical style to that of the
bride.
They were of floor­
length midnight blue crepe and
featured gold crepe vests. Each
carried a nosegay of marigolds
and babies breath.
Flower girl was Nickie Atagi,
niece of the bride. She wore
a midnight blue crepe dress
and carried a nosegay of mari­
golds and babies breath.
Best man was Joe Loera and
ushering the guests were Rudy
Vendrell, Ron Moffis and Jim
Dail.
The bride’s mother chose a
street-length dress ofburgundy
polyester knit. The mother of
the groom wore a red polyester
knit
dress of street-length.
Their corsages were one large
orchid and rosebuds.
A reception followed the ce­
remony. A three-tiered wed­
ding cake, decorated with fresh
marigolds and topped with mari­
golds and blue birds was on the
bride’s table. Barbl Wilt and
Janice Okano cut and served
the cake. Susan Kouns was at
the punch bowl. Also assisting
with the serving were Mmes.
Norma Atagi, Bert Wait, Wayne
Garner, Don Beekstead and Miss
Lynne Glenn.
Shelley Schulthies was in
charge of the guest book. Mrs.
Jenny Murphy, Mrs. Fidel So­
liz and Mary Wahlert were at
the gift table. Receiving the
gifts were Misses Jamie Gar­
ner, Dorie and Marcie Beck-
stead.
The bride was graduated from
Nyssa High School in 1970 and
attended Bassit Fashion In­
stitute in Portland.
She is
presently employed at Meier
and Frank Company in Port-
land. The groom, a 1967 gra­
duate of Benson High School in
Portland -is in his senior year
at Portland State University.
For going away the new Mrs.
Skelton wore a polyester knit
pantsuit in shades of lavender,
purple and rust. Her acces­
sories were purple suede.
Following their wedding trip,
the newlyweds are now at home
in Portland.

Jay-C-Ettes were honored
guests at Treasure Valley
Toastmistress Club Thursday,
Oct. 14 at the Nyssa Library
Meeting Room. Louise O’Neil
was Toast mistress for the even­
ing. Members gave three min­
ute talks on hobbies. This por­
tion is to train members to stay
within time limits. Ona Tun­
ing gave the Lexicology lesson
and Mary Greenway a book re­
view. Job’s Daughters catered
the refreshments. Guests were
Ava Kildow, Sandy Siegenhagen,
Linda Uhl and Sharon Fletcher
all of Parma.

of Mark N. Stephen, at Tieton
Drive Bible Chapel in Yakima,
Washington. The double-ring
ceremony was solemnized by
the Rev. John Crawford, in the
presence of 125 guests. The
Chapel was graced with baskets
of yellow mums entwined with
ivy.
Soloist was Mrs. John
Christenson.
Parents of the couple are Mr.
and Mrs. Robert A. Christen­
son of Cowiche, Wash., and Mr.
and Mrs. Joseph Stephen of
Route 2 Nyssa.
The bride, given in marriage
by her father, was attired in a
floor-length empire waisted
gown of Quaker lace. The
gown’s round neckline was com­
plimented with lace scallops and
full Bishop sleeves accented
with seed pearls and were ga­
thered into cuffs. Her elbow
length veil of illusion was held to
a petal headpiece of satin and
lace, edged with seed pearls.
She carried a bridal bouquet of
yellow rosebuds and babies
breath.
Attending her sister as ma­
tron of honor was Mrs. Ron
Garrison, who wore a floor­
length dress in shades of lime
green print. Bridesmaid was
Mrs. Ron Christenson, she wore
a yellow dress of floor-length.

attendants all carried mums.

For her daughter’s wedding
Mrs. Christenson chose a
street-length dress of pink lace,
while the bridegroom’s mother
was attired in a pink knit dress
of street-length. Each wore a
corsage of white and pink rose­
buds.
A reception was held follow­
ing the ceremony in the Bible
Chapel social hall. The three­
tiered cake was decorated with
yellow roses and topped with a
miniature bride and groom en­
circled with fresh flowers.
Mrs. Dan Crosswhite and
Mrs. Bob Mosso were in charge
of cutting and serving the cake.
Mrs. Robert Ewell poured cof­
fee.
Becky Christenson and
Ruth Stephen served punch.
The new Mrs. Stephen attend­
ed Yakima Valley Junior Col­
lege and University of Puget
Sound in Tacoma. Her hus­
band attended Treasure Valley
Community College and Ore­
gon State University.
For going away the bride
wore a rust colored velvet
dress. After a honeymoon trip
to Canada the couple are mak­
ing their home in Nyssa, where
he is associated with his fa­
ther in farming.

The District Meeting of OES
Chapters of this area was held
October 11 at Ontario with Star
Chapter #69 as hosts.
The meeting was preceded by
a no host banquet at the East­
side with approximately sixty
attending.

opened the meeting in form and
escorted and introduced Vir­
ginia Wilkerson, Worthy Grand
Matron andCarl Wipper, Worthy
Grand Patron of Oregon; Jim
Wheelock, Past Grand Patron of
Idaho; Grand Ruth, Clare Cox;
Grand Esther, Bernice Wipper;

Idaho, Helen Bevins; two Grand
Representatives, Dorothy Wal­
ker of Star Chapter repre­

There were several chapters
in Idaho and Oregon repre­
sented. After closing of Chap­
ter refreshments were served
from
beautifully decorated
tables. Individual tables wore
decorated with the emblems of
the threeChaptors, Golden Rule.
