The Nyssa Gat« City Journal, Nyssa, Oregon Pag« Five Ruth Ann McGinley Earns Scholarship Doris King Studies At Beauty College McCrady Promoted Longs Celebrate To First Lieutenant 49th Anniversary To celebrate their 49th wed­ ding anniversary, Dr. and Mrs. John Long spent Tuesday and Wednesday on a wedding trip through Hells Canyon then back to Halfway and up the old road to Cornicopia. They then visited the McQueen family in Halfway before returning home Wed- nesday. Ruth Ann McGinley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Mc­ Ginley received word that she i has been awarded the 1971 Mal­ heur County Committee and Home Extension Units scholar­ ship of $200 for tuition ex­ penses at Oregon State Uni­ versity for the fall quarter 1971. Ruth Ann is a 1969 Nyssa High School graduate and has attended Oregon State Uni­ versity in Corvallis for two years majoring in Home Econo­ mics Communications. Doris King, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald King, is ap­ proaching completion of the first half of her course work at Mary Kawakami College of Beauty in PROVO, Utah. Her instructors indicate that she is progressing well. Thus far most of her time and attention have been devoted to the basic arts and sciences of cosmeto­ logy. Through the first 1000 hours of her 2000 hour course, Miss King has accumulated a basic knowledge In both theore­ tical and practical cosmetology. Graduates Receive As she pursues the comple­ tion of her course work, she Scholarship Awards will concentrate on developing the finer techniques which will enable her to advise men and women in all areas of beauty and achievement. In addition to her formal instruction and education, Miss King has participated in many extra-curricular activities, in­ cluding: Jr. Counselor; Stu­ dent Council member; and co­ editor of the college’s monthly newspaper. Michael L. McCrady, 25, son of Mr. and Mrs. E.L. McCrady, Nyssa, was recently promoted to Army First Lieutenant at Ft. Wainwright, Alaska. Lt. McCrady is assigned as Liaison Officer of the 1st Battalion, 47th Infantry, 171st Infantry Brigade. His wife, Lynne, is with him at Ft. Wainwright. HELLO WORLD! Mr. and Mrs. C. Kent Mann of Downey, California, are parents of a son born Tuesday, May 25, 1971, at the Downey Community hospital. The Manns named their son David Gonyer Mann. He weighed seven pounds, ten ounces at birth. Thursday, June 10, 1971 David joins two sisters at MALHEUR MEMORIAL home, Melanie and Lauralyn.
