University Of Oregon Library Eugene, Ore. 97kO3 X X X X X Nyssa Gate City Journal Volume LXV The Nyssa Gate City Journal, Nyssa, Oregon The Sugar City NEW FEES USTED FOR VITAL RECORDS BY OREGON BOARD OF HEALTH Fees for certified copies of births, deaths and other vital records issued by the Oregon State Board of Health have been Increased to three dollars for the first copy. Additional copies of the same record, if issued at the time the first copy is requested, now cost two dollars each. A five dollar fee Is the current rate for new or supplemental birth certificates which must be ■ prepared in connection with adoptions or with the marriage of parents after a child has been born. The new fee schedule went into effect March 17 when Gover nor McCall signed HB 1161. The bill contained an emergency clause. For the past 14 years, the OSBH Vital Statistics Section has been authorized to charge two dollars for each full, cer tified copy of either birth or death records. The abbreviated, card-style birth certificate has cost one dollar. All operations of the state vital statistics section are financed entirely by fees collec ted for certified copies. The current volume of certificates issued is more than one hundred thousand a year of which app roximately 84,000 are birth re cords and 20,000 are death records. The section is custodian for nearly four million records of birth, deaths, marriages,di vorces and adoptions which have occurred in Oregon since the Board of Health was formed in 1903. Fee increases were effected in the nick of time to prevent Oregon’s vital statistics re gistry from going into the red. Marian M. Martin, who is State Registrar as well as dir- Thursday, March 25, 1971 Thunderegg Capital Number XII FARM BUREAU OPPOSES FEDERAL REGULATIONS ON FARM-TRUCK OPERATIONS Next Year's Nyssa PTA Officers ector of the OSBH vital sta tistics section, said today that all reserve monies from fee collections were used up during the current biennium. Income permitted by the 14-year-old fee schedule has not been suf ficient to cover actual costs of the services for more than a year. The State of Washington changed to the basic $3 fee for vital records certificates during 1970. A number of other states either have made the change or are seeking legis lation in this direction, Miss Martin indicated. She pointed out that it is advisable for persons applying for certified records by mail to find out in advance what the actual cost will be. The newly revised Oregon law now provides that overpayments up to $3 are to be refunded only upon written request. Any overpayment in excess of $3 will be automatically re funded.
