BARRY FUJISHIN (on right). 1967 Adrian high school senior, re
cently completed a seven-week summer training program in agri
cultural science at the University of California in Riverside. He
is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Fujishin of route 1, Homedale, and
was among 30 participating senior students from various sections
of the United States. A grant from National Science foundation
helped to finance the training program. During the research study,
Fujishin learned about a new field of tissue culture, use of equip
ment and recording of scientific data. Working with Dr. Toshio
Murashige (on left in picture), plant physiologist, the AHS student
carried out a research project dealing with growth stimulants in
orange juice. He was also introduced to hundreds of other new
and challenging fields in scientific agriculture and learned that it
is truly "more then Just farming." The program enabled the sen
iors to gain experience in research while working with U of C
scientists prior to college or university enrollment.
