Slate Garden Club President Speaks
To Members of District 11 Groups
Five members from Owyhee
Garden club represented the unit

dub meeting held May 25 ut the
East Side cafe in Ontario. In at-
tendance for a n<x>n no-host lun-
cheon were 53 women represent-
ing the seven clubs within the
district.
Town and Country Garden
dub members of Nyssa, headed
by their President Mrs. William
Schlreinan, were hostesses for
this annual session. The women
used the dub colors of white, blue
and lavender in a fresh flower
arrangement for the table center
piece and May baskets of flowers
as individual favors.
Ontario Garden dub members
agreed to host the 1967 meeting
of District 11 garden groups.
the district unit, presided during
the business session when the
women voted to use "Symphony
in Color" us theme for their
booth at the Malheur county fair.
As horticulture is the main ob
ject of garden dubs, memlierx
were told to be thinking of ways
to use more horticultural products
grown by members for fair booths

Portland, State Federated Garden j
club president. She reported on
the National Federated Garden
club meeting held this year at I
Yuma, Ariz., and announced that

Mrs. Frunk Holub, chairmun of
Mrs. Ambuhl accepted several
awards given to the State Garden
club, with the outstanding one
being the Korean Citation which
was presented by the Korean
government for World Garden-
| ing (Seed for Peace).
The state president stated that
| in looking ahead, the challenge
for gardening groups is that their
projects will become nationally
wide in scope, encompassing all
phases of conservation and pres
ervation of natural beauty.
Mrs. Ambuhl was accompanied
to Ontario by Mrs. I. E. (Gerry)
Olsen of Portland, state secretary.
During the luncheon hour, en
tertainment was provided by Bob
Richards of Baker, who present
ed several piano and vocal se
lections.

Meeting of Owyhee
Garden Club Slated
Tomorrow Afternoon
Meeting date for Owyhee Gar
den club has been set ahead one
week, due to the garden tour
planned for this month, it is an
nounced by Mrs. M. Atagi, pub
licity chairman.
Members are asked to meet in
Nyssa south park at 1:30 Friday
afternoon, June 3, and a short
business meeting will precede the |
tour which is being held in place
of the regular June 10 meeting.
Mmes. Ray Strickland, Wilbur
Holcomb and R. M. Cochrun as
sumed duties June 1 as chairmen
in charge of the Owyhee ceme
tery project. May chairmen were
Mmes. Frank Holub and Earl I
Ward.
It is reported that considerable
work was done with help of their
volunteer assistants, including
Holub (who helped with weeding)
and Mmes. Wilbur Chapin, James
Langley, Elver Nielsen, Ira Price
and Mas Atagi who assisted in
planting of geraniums and petu-1
nias. Two dozen of each kind of
flowers were donated by Fangen
Floral.
