of the Big Bend Irrigation District

Chris Wyckoff, a sophomore at the University of Oregon,
is one of many university men conducting a special guidance
program to assist troubled young boys in the Eugene area.
The program is being conducted by YMCA officials who
issued a call for assistance in the fall of 19(55, stating that
special qualifications were in demand.

Has Fourth Grade Student
Chris, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Dwight Wyckoff of Nyssa, has
Steve Chadwick, a fourth grade
student, for whom he is respon­
sible.
The lad has a mother, but no
father, and comes from a large
family. Chris sees him at least
twice a week. He sometimes
visits him in his home on the op­
posite side of Eugene from where
the university is located.
On other occasions Steve is in­
vited to the student's room where
the two of them work with mod­
They sometimes play ball, take
bicycle rides, attend basketball
games or go to the movies.
Chris lets Steve select the acti­
vity for each particular get-to­
gether, and at the same time tries
to guide his thinking
The student's mother, June Ma­
rie Wyckoff, reports that Chris
says he is able to sec a big change
in the lad
more and more he
seems to appreciate their friend­
ship. Mrs Wyckoff also states
that the program has been good
for her son. giving him a sense
of responsibility and a compan­
ionship he should never forget.
