BIBLE STUDY GROUP MEETS
Members of the Bible study
circle of the Adrian Community
church met June 23 at the home
of Mrs. Lynn Hurst near Ontario. I
A potluck dinner was served to
12 members and two children.
Mrs. Marie Moore presented the
lesson entitled “Mutual Obliga
tions of Freedom,” taken from the |
book of Galatians.
Nyssa ... Our Hometown!
Our hometown is Nyssa. Ore., located on the east
edge of the state, close to the west bank of the Snake
river which divides Oregon and Idaho.
Population wise, it is not ‘ the greatest,” but the sign
on the highway at the city limits reads 2,740. Without
us it would read 2,738 — so we count and we’re glad we
are Nyssans.
For recreation, we bowl at the local lanes, play golf
on the nearby Ontario course and occasionally attend
a social function at the Eagles hall or just meet and eat
with friends.
This area is a paradise for hunters, fishermen, camp
ers and rock hounds.
When we go into a Nyssa store, we usually find
pretty nearly what we are looking for — and if a cer
tain firm doesn’t have the item, the owner or manager
usually offers to order it. With just a little planning
ahead, we usually get what we w’ant.
As for a leisurely day out of town, we’d rather shop
at home and spend a day off doing something that we
enjoy. Pounding the streets of a larger city, just to
shop, is strictly not our idea oi fun or enjoyment.
We have found most residents of Nyssa and the sur
rounding area to be very friendly, and feel that in the six
years we have been here, we have gained numerous
loyal friends.
Funny thing about the newspaper business, when
you please someone it seems they just expected to be
pleased. But when someone is unhappy with something
contained on the printed pages, it soon becomes known
to the publishers. How’ever, in thinking it over, guess
every businessman faces the same situation, be he cafe
owner, groceryman or other merchant.
We of the human race, all too often, do more griping
than we do back patting.
When we came here six years and two months ago,
we said we would not go back to Northwest Arkansas,
from whence we came, until we could feel that we would
be coming home to Nyssa.
For the past two summers we have had a strong de
sire to return to the Razorback state, but only to visit
family and friends, and then return to our hometown,
Nyssa. — A.B.
