LEAVES FOR SAN DIEGO

Saturday by plane from Boise,
bound for San Diego. He had
spent a 15-day leave with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Con
ant, and also visited his sisters,
¡Mrs. Lester Stacy and Mrs. Mitch
Anderson.
Conant had recently completed
an eight-month cruise in the Pa
cific, including 43 days of patrol
duty in the Tonkin gulf off Viet
Nam, for which he was awarded
a ribbon and medal. He also
visited Japan, Hong Kong, Oki
nawa and other islands in the
Pacific.

Long Stay in Hospital
Ends May 1 for Lad

Calvin Cleaver was released I

than a month in Malheur Me
morial hospital recovering from i
injuries sustained in a farm acci
dent.
The lad was admitted on March
24 when he fell from a tractor
and was run over by the machine.
He suffered a broken left thigh;
and was in traction during his
entire stay in the hospital.
Calvin is the 6-year-old son of
Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Cleaver of
route 2, Nyssa. His parents re
port he is most happy to be home
and is recovering satisfactorily.
As told to a member of the ‘
Journal staff, “Upon entering the
hospital and being provided with
one of the well-known ‘hospital
affiliated’ conveniences the lad
remarked, ‘Oh, you don’t have
to bring me that; I’ll just wait j
until I go home’.”
Rural Home Struck
By Lightning Flash
The Norbert Sarazin home es- i
caped major damage Wednesday
afternoon, April 28, when light-
ning struck the house and a near-
by power pole.
The Sarazins report the flash
started two fires on the dwelling
but Mrs. Sarazin was home and
able to extinguish the flames be
fore any great damage was done,
although some siding was scorch
ed.
The lightning bolt resulted in
damage to the family’s pump, hot
water heater, washer-dryer, tele
vision. radio and telephone. Fuse
boxes were blown apart and cir-
cuit breakers damaged.
Mrs. Sarazin reports that the
appliances are repairable and
most damage is covered by in-
surance.
