Funeral services for Mrs. Ella
D. Smith, resident of the Nyssa
area for nearly 50 years, were
conducted Saturday, Dec. 26, 1964,
at Lienkaemper chapel. Officiat­
ing were Methodist ministers
Ralph A. Lawrence of Nyssa and
Tom Foster of Ontario.
Mrs. Smith succumbed at nearly
98 years of age, on Wednesday,
Dec. 23, in Malheur Memorial
hospital. She had been a patient
in the nursing home wing for the
past 10 years.
She was born April 14, 1867, at
Unionville, Iowa, a daughter of
George W. and Margaret Dean.
On Jan. 7, 1886, she was united
in marriage to Jacob B. Smith at
Unionville and they moved to
Oregon from Iowa in 1915; Mr.
Smith succumbed in October 1934.
A daughter, Alta Fry, also pre­
ceded Mrs. Smith in death.
The deceased was a member of
the Methodist church and during
her younger years was active in
work of the PTA, garden and
book clubs. Her favorite hobbies
were gardening and reading.
Mrs. Smith is survived by two
sons, Dean and Dwight Smith,
both of Nyssa; one brother, Earl
Dean of Spokane, Wash.
Also surviving are three grand­
children. 10 great-grandchildren,
five great - great - grandchildren
and one great-great-great-grand­
son.
Interment was made in the
Nyssa cemetery under direction
of Lienkaemper funeral home.
Pallbearers were John J. Smith,
Clyde Smith. George Johnston,
Dwight Johnston. Jack Walters
and Artie Robertson.

erous kindnesses expressed in
thought and deed following the
death of our beloved mother and
grandmother, Ella D. Smith. We
also want to thank Dr. David W.
Sarazin and the staff at Malheur
Memorial hospital for their care
and courtesies extended while
she was a patient. Your thought­
fulness will always be remember­
ed.
