Hoffman was hostess to Out Our
Way club members Wednesday at
her home. A turkey dinner was
served at noon to husbands and
children, after which each one
present was given a Christmas
gift.
During the meeting each mem
ber guessed her secret pal and
the losers must entertain with a
party for winners. Only three
members, Mrs. Edith Whipple,
Mrs. Esther Stephen and Mrs. Si

sheet of Christmas seals, each
portraying a cheerful family
scene.
Someone else’s family? Squint
a little and you may be surprised
at what you see. That could be
your family trimming the tree,
singing Christmas carols, having
a musical get-together or hanging
a wreath.
And when TB strikes, it may
not be someone else’s family; it
could very easily be your own,
if you don’t heed the safety pre
cautions.
Make sure you and your fami
ly get the needed rest and essen
tial foods to build up resistance
against this dread enemy.
TB can strike anywhere in the
body without warning. This dis
ease is also very contagious; it can
be contracted very readily. But
it can be cured and prevented.
So heed the advice of your
Christmas seals, “Protect the
Family Circle,” and have a check
made once a year.
Soviets More Tolerant
As Santa Claus Wins
After unsuccessful efforts t o
keep Christmas from being cele
brated as a Christian holiday, the
Communist regimes of Russia and
the countries of Eastern Europe
have recently shown a more tol-
erant attitude toward traditional
observances, Father Christmas,
the Russian Santa, is back again,
having refused to become Father
Winter, the name Communists at
tempted to give him.
Another gifts bringer in Russia
is a legendary old woman called
Babuska (grandmother). Legend
says she mis-directed the Magi
when they asked the way to Beth
lehem. She repented, and to atone
she went about the world Christ
mas Eve looking for the Christ
Child and distributing gifts to
children.
