4-H member for 10 years. Last
summer he took over junior
leadership of the Insecticiders
4-H Club in St. Helens. Six of
the club's exhibits at the Oregon
state fair won ribbons.
The bug enthusiast has been
conducting a survey to deter­
mine the crop that has greatest
appeal for grasshoppers. His
Chicago trip was sponsored by
the Hercules Powder Co.
Dean Wimer's greatest 4-H
thrill was when he learned that
he’d won a trip to congress
based on his success in the 4-H
swine project "Words failed
me!" he says.
The 18-year-old Brownsville
youth has concentrated for six
years on this project. His swine
have won many honors and
awards at local. Linn county
and state fairs Wimer himself
has won top showmanship
honors.
Junior leader and president of
the local Livestock Calapooia
4-H Club, he has enlisted now
members and given generous as­
sistance to younger members.
He has also been a helpful mem­
ber of the Tractor and of the
Bachelor Sewing Clubs.
Wimer’s trip was provided by
Moorman Manufacturing Com­
pany.

the National 4-H Club Congress
in Chicago were four Oregon
ciub members who have dis­
tinguished themselves in beef,
frosen foods, entomology and
swine projects.
Miss Margaret Ann Burk, 19.
of Vale, owned her first heifer
at the age of seven when her
grandfather presented her with
a Hereford. And down through
the years she has emphasised
selecting and breeding beef cat­
tle until today her efforts exem­
plify the best growth in 4-H en­
deavors when she compared her
first range heifer and her pres­
ent showstring of purebred
Herefords.
Miss Burk raised the grand
champion steer of the Malheur
county fair this past year and
gained permanent possession of
the traveling trophy for breed­
ing. Her Herefords have cap­
tured 12 firsts.
She won the $400 national 4-H
beef scholarship award and state
trip to Chicago provided by E. I.
du Pont de Nemours.

won by Patricia “Patsy’' Mera.
