Morford Blames Fairs for Poor Turnout at Grid Practices Coach Bob M oiford W ednesday .blamed the M alheur C ounty F air and the W estern Idaho F air for the relatively poor tu rn o u t for football practice this week Many prospects h a v e been w orking all sum m er, he said, and are ta k in g this last w eek before school starts to show livestock and projects at the fairs He said h e d oesn’t expect a full tu rn o u t u n til classes s ta rt n ex t week. The coach said 35 m en tu rn ed out M onday night, the first p ra c tice of the year T uesday only 30 tu rn ed out, and six of these w ere out for the first time, m eaning 11 of the first n ig h t’s candidates failed to show up the second night. B uhler said th e A ntelopes lost only four of last y e a r’s startin g 1 team , leaving a solid core of seven I v eteran s to build around. O ne of the players lost was F red S ayre, outstanding sophom ore q u a rte r- 1 back. S ayre is th e son of A thol Sayre, fo rm er A drian principal ; w ho m oved this y e a r to Elgin as j school su p erin ten d en t. B uhler said he did n o t yet know w hat form ation the team would j run from, possibly a double or single wing. The A ntelopes used I a T -form ation last year. This is B u h ler’s first full-tim e ] coaching job, alth o u g h he has coached com m unity sports for several years. T he new coach g rad u ated from | V ale high school in 1952 and then j en tered Boise J u n io r College | w here he played tw o years of football. He sp en t from 1954 to | 1956 in G reat B ritain on an LDS mission. B uhler en tered B righam Young j U niversity upon his re tu rn to the U nited S tates, and g rad u ated from th a t school in 1959 w ith a B.S. in physical education, and a m inor in zoology. Football Physicals Are Slated Today Physical exam inations f o r high school football candidates are to be given today at S p.m. at the school gymnasium. Coach Bob Morford said yesterday. The exam inations are free, w i t h Nyssa doctors serving without charge. Morford said all players are required to take a physical examination. Required insurance may be arranged through the h i g h school or through independent agencies, he said.
