Farmerettes Club
Burgess Jersey Herd
Has High Rating
An average production of 9,253
lbs. milk containing 520 lbs. but­
terfat per cow is the accomplish­
ment of the registered Jersey
herd owned by Fred E. Burgess,
Route 2, Vale.
The herd of 33 Jerseys recently
completed a 12-month test period
on Herd Improvement Registry.
The official test was made under
the supervision of Oregon State
college in cooperation with The
American Jersey Cattle club,
breed registry organization lo­
cated in Columbus, Ohio.
Four registered Jersey cows
owned by Burgess completed rec­
ords of Herd Improvement Reg­
istry test which entitles them to
special recognition from the Am­
erican Jersey Cattle club.

Wynn R. Mortensen, son of Mrs
Verna R. Mortensen, Nyssa, re­
cently was promoted to sergeant
in Japan, where he is a supply
clerk with the Tokyo Quarter­
master depot.
Mortensen, who entered the
Army in July 1951, arrived over­
seas in December, 1953. He com­
pleted basic training at Camp
Roberts, Calif.
