Open Even When
He's Closed
Must have been daydreaming
on my way to a meeting down in
Centerville the other night. My
car ran dry before I thought to
look at the gas gauge, but 1 man
aged to coast into a gas station—
and found it closed!
Well, I thought my plans were
ruined for sure until I noticed
a gasoline can with a sign: “This
is emergency gas. Just help your
self and leave the can with $1.00.
Thanks.”
Got started, made the meeting
on time, and had enough gas to
get back home again— thanks to
a trusting friend.
From where I sit, folks who
trust their neighbors make the
world a better place to live in. For
instance, letting a friend express
his personal preferences, Ls one
way of trusting your neighbor.
Sometimes I prefer a temperate
glass of beer in the evening but
I’ll always ask what you'd like
before I pour yours.

The fortunes of our basketball
teams rises and falls just like the
tide. On January 8th the Flyers
journeyed to Ontario and both of
our teams were defeated by about
the same score. The score of the
Eightth Grade game was 28 to 19
and the score of the Seventh Grade
was 26 to 16.
In the games with Adrian played
the week before our boys were
victorious. The Eighth Grade win
ning by a score of 34 to 14 and the
Seventh Grade by a score of 41 to
12 .
In the Ontario game our Eighth
Grade got o ff to a flying start and
had four points before Ontario
scored. Then the Ontario boys began
to score heavily and got twenty-
one points while we were getting
eight more points. Halftime score
was twelve to twenty-one.
During the second half both teams
scored only seven points with many
substitutions being made by both
Coaches.
•
These Nysr.a boys that saw action
in the game were the starters:
Dennis Savage, Kent Lovejoy, Gary
Chesnut, Lie yd Montoya and Monty
Burbank ar.d substitutes: Jim Ber-
gam. Gale Coleman, John Messick,
Jim Settles and John Marsh.
The quarter scores of the Seventh
Grade game were, first quarter-4 ail,
second quarter-7
to 13. third
quarter-11 to 21 and final score-11
to 21.
Boys that played in this game
were LeRoy Morris, Leo Gallegos,
Henry Phillips, Dwight Hunter, Ron
Rookstooi, Gary Toombs, Jerry My-
rick and Clark Jaques.
All
the boys on the basketball
squad came back from Ontario tell
ing us how large the pntario players
were. Someone suggested that per
haps Coach Lovejoy should start
feeding Nyssa's future Bulldogs
generous rations of Grow Pup.
Someone else said. “ It’s going to
take a lot of Grow Pup.”
