JOURNAL 77ieNYSSA VOLUME X X X X V I NO. 27 Crowds At Nyssa Rodeo See Many Thrilling Events Menkenmeier andNelsen Best Bronc Ami Bare- back riders Water Pressure Is Declared Too Low The city water pressure was very low Tuesday because of excessive watering of lowns, apparently due to the extreme heat. The city cannot allow the water pressure to get too low because of the hazard such a condition would create in case of fire and the dang er of causing a sand condition in the mains. When the water pres sure in the mains is low. the well pump pulls more water and conse quently more sand. City Manager E. K. Burton indi cated that it might be necessary to restrict use of water for irri gating if the present weather con ditions continue. Practically all of the saddle bronc riding and bareback riding places were taken by Oregon men and practically all of the calf-roping honors were taken fcy Arizona and California cowboys during the fifth annual Nyssa Night rodeo, in some respects the best rodeo ever held here. JULY 19, 1951 Beets And Other Crops Look Good In Ny ssa Section Increase In Price O f Sug ar Will Benefit Growers Jared Lewis of Nyssa, district manager of the Amalgamated Sugar company, told members of the Nyssa chamber of commerce at their weekly luncheon Wednesday noon that all crops in the area look as good as last year and expressed the belief that the beet crop is as good as has ever been grown here. The yield of beets will depend pri marily on the weather, but certainly they have a very good start. The sugar market is showing strength, as indicated by an increase of 70 cents in the price o f sugar during a 10-day period a few weeks ago. If the price is maintained, growers will realize thousands of dollars more than expected on their 1960 crop of beets. If the price re mains at its present level, a supple mental payment will be made to the growers because the price of sugar is involved in figuring the amount that the growers are to receive per ton for their beets. Mr. Lewis said the Nyssa person nel of the company broke all previ ous production records at the Nyssa factory during the last year. Every phase of operation was extremely successful. The company is now making some rather extensive im provements at the Nyssa plant. During the last week, a group of European sugar people visited the Nyssa sugar factory, Mr. Lewis said. Kiwanians Will Eat At Hospital Members of the Kiwanis club of Ontario will be guests of the Mal- heur Memorial hospital organization a luncheon to be held Wednesday noon, July 25 in the hospital staff room. The 50 expected Kiwanians will be served the meal that is served to the patients on that day After the meal the visitors will be shown through the hospital by a group of 10 or 15 Nyssa residents who are familiar with operations at the hos pital. If the plan is successful. Manager John O'Toole hopes to Invite other groups to eat a meal at the hospital and view the building and equip ment. No formal luncheon program has been arranged.
