APRIL 26. 1951 PAGE FOUR Plans For Girls State Announced Intensive training in democratic leadership will be given to thous ands of American girls again this summer at the American Legion auxiliary’s girls states, according to Mrs. H. O. Hopkins, girls state chairman of the Nyssa unit of the auxiliary. Olrls states will again be held in every state and the Panama Canal zane. and auxiliary units through out the country are now selecting the girls who will attend, Mrs. Hop kins said. The girls will all be high school juniors and will be chosen on a basis c f their leader ship abilities Approximately 10,- 000 will have opportunity to attend girls states this year. A majority of the girls states will be held on the campuses of colleges and universities and will be in ses sion one week The girls will form political parties, conduct election campaigns, hold elections and op erate all the functions o f a state government in miniature. They will have actual experience in operating the machinery of democratic gov ernment from the precinct and township up to the state house Each girls state will select two girls to attend girls nation, to be held in Washington, D.
