Democracy At Work
An example of democracy at work, at least on a
superficial scale, was exemplified at a concert given
by a group of negro singers before a rather small crowd
of white folk in the Nyssa gymnasium Tuesday night.
From the standpoint of the meeting itself, the ex­
ample was very much on the surface because it did not
put the white man’s belief in racial tolerance to the acid
test, but it did show what can be accomplished. The
best example of racial tolerance was shown by the lead­
er of the colored quartet, Thomas Jefferson Pruitt, wh >
joked about his excess “tan” and poked fun at hi .ace,
but also criticized the white folk for continued adher-

which is one of the best attributes of democracy at work.
