in such an adequate, beautiful structure with as much
satisfaction derived from use of the building as from
the enjoyment of the programs. After all these years of
attending performances in the old gymnasium, the privil
ege of stepping into that spacious gymnasium was wond
erful. With outsiders also enjoying the comfort of the
new building, taxpayers swelled with pnde in their new
possession
The only inconvenience is caused by lack of an ade
quate address system. Experts say it is impossible to
make a gymnasium with the acoustical advantages of an
auditorium, but at least the disadvantage can be reduced
by installation of a good speaker system. Probably $1000
would be sufficient to install a system that would ade
quately carry the voices of speakers to all parts of the
gymnasium If local residents do not feel that we should
pay the cost of such an installation through taxation,
perhaps the money could be raised through other means.
In any event, the value of the gymnasium as a com
munity center should not be permitted to remain at a
low level because of lack of a speaker system

Few of us realized last year the value, convenience
and enjoyment we would experience from use of the
new Nyssa gymnasium.
The new building has already paid great entertain
ment, educational and social dividends to the commun
ity by making possible the appearance of the nationally-
renowned de Paur chorus under the auspices of the Mal
heur County Concert association, Miss Bessie Hansen,
ballet artist and the Boise Gleemen as well as the spon
sorship of the first district No. 1 basketball jamboree.
Holding these events in Nyssa would have been
impossible without an auditorium-gymnasium of the size
of the one now located here To those attending these
events, it did not seem possible that they were sitting
