Mrs. Clyde Snider was leader on the topic, "Germany, Crux of Europe's Re construction Problem". Talks on the subject were made by Mrs. J. J. Sarazm, Mrs. Oerrit Stam. Mrs. Wesley Browne and Mrs. Frank Morgan Following the program session, the group enjoyed a potluck lunch eon. The group will adjourn for the summer months and will re convene in September. ROUNDWOfiAfj 0 0 MUCH DAMAGE • v -w -w , 8 - m 8 - PLAN MARRIAGE IN RENO Opal W. King and R. L. iJaekl Williamson, both of Nyssa, will leave Sunday for Reno, where they plan to be married. They will spend a 10-days honeymoon in Cali fornia and return to Nyssa by way of Seattle, where they will visit Mr. Williamson's brother. William son is employed at the sugar fac tory here. Mrs. King is owner and operator of the Ritzie Dreas and Floral Shoppe. —§ - AMITY WOMEN MEET The Junior Women’s Amity club met at the home of Mrs. Taft Pett June 10. The guest speaker was Mrs. James Hardman of Egypt. Several guests attended the m eet ing. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Mel Beck June 24. - 8 - BIRTHDAY OBSERVED Mrs. Joe Bellon entertained last Saturday afternoon for her daugh ter, Joann on her birthday anni versary. Refreshments were served ay Kathryn Crandall. —8 - OLUB OFFICERS ELECTED Members of the A. N. K. Garden club met Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. George Scbweizer. During the business meeting Mrs. Erank Morgan reported the follow ing persons selected by the nomin ating committee for president. Mrs. James Spofford; vice president, Mrs. Carl Hid, and ecretary-treas- urer, Mrs. George Schweizer. The nominees were elected to serve for the coming year. During the program, Mrs. Glenn Suitor told of the national Iris convention that she had attended in Portland. The main speakers lor the convention were Dr. Sid ney Mitchell of the university of California, who is recognized as .he world's most outstanding auth ority on ins; Guy Rodgers ol Witchita Falls, Texas, president of the National Iris Growers associ ation, and Carl Starker of Portland, who spoke on iris arrangements. The 350 registered delegates were taken on tours of the outstanding iris gardens in the Willamette val ley. A number of the group stop ped over in Nyssa to view the iris gardens of Mrs. Glenn Suitor, who has done outstanding work in the hybridizing of Iris. Five of Mrs. Suitor's ills have been registered with the National Iris Grower. Following the program, ice cream, angle food cake and iced tea were served by the hostess. —8 - CHUROH GROUP INSTALLS The women’s council o l the Christian church met last Thurs day alteM oon at the church for the Installation of officers tor the coming year. The installation ser vice was under the direction of Mrs. John Stafford with the fol lowing officers being installed: Mrs. Roy Blbbey, president; Mrs. Henry Storm, vice president; Mrs. Harold Robbins, secretary, and Mrs. Ralph Curry, treasurer. Special music was furnished by the wo man's trio, Mrs. Chet Mosier, Mrs. John Stafford and Mrs. Orin Moyes. Following a business meeting, members of Mrs. Webb Pennie’s circle served refreshments of straw berry shortcake and coffee. - - size and leg-length. to cut down repair bills 8 - YOUNG PEOPLE HAVE DINNER Members of this year's senior c l a s s attending the Methodist church were guests at a dinner held the evening of June 1 at the church. The tables were centered with bouquets of roses and places were marked by miniature diplom as. Following the dinner, a theater party was enjoyed. Corabelle Cole man, Dorothy Erwin and Marlene Moss were In charge of the dinner. Bob Kido was toastmaster for the accaslon and special music was furnished by Donna Lee Wilson on the violin, accompanied toy Mrs. Bud Wilson. 8 - Return From Trip— Mr. and Mrs. Charles Peterson returned home Saturday night from an extended trip. They visited in Texas, Utah and other states. They were accompanied home by Mrs. Peterson's mother and sister, Mrs. C, F. Atchison and Mrs. Robert Hild of Stanton, Texas. June 16—Voters of school district No. 01, which includes for- mer Owyhee district No. 18, will go j to the polls Monday, June 20 to | vote on a 616.980 tax levy above the 6 per cent limitation. Polling places i will be in the new Adrian grade school building between tne hours of 2 p. m. and 7 p. m. This $16.980 00 figure was placed on the 1949-50 budget by the board of directors and budget committee to offset the need for additional money to complete the new grade school building, equipment and put the grounds in shape. Two thousand dollars was budg eted to complete the payment of the contract to Huling and Son, contractors; $2,000 for leveling and landscaping the grounds; $700 for seeding playgrounds and purchase of shrubs; $1,500 for installation of a sprinkler system; $2,000 for sew age disposal; $1,500 for finishing two basement classrooms in the new building; $840 for new furn iture and equipment; $300 for li brary books and $6,080 for payment on principal and interest on bond ed indebtedness. The annual school meeting for school district No. 61 will be held Monday evening, June 20 at 8 p. m. At the annual school meeting voters will elect one director for a three-year term to replace K.
