given a short broom and made
brave attempts at moving a soft-

out triumphant with a score of
ihree to the Lions' one.
The main attraction of the after
noon was the donkey baseball game
Which was played on the regula
tion size diamond. The rules of
he game differed from the regular
rules o f baseball on several counts.
When a man is at bat there is no
.trikeout. After three strikes, the
batter is given a scoopshovel in
place of the regulation bat. He
may hit only three foul balls and
if he hit over that number he must
ride his donkey backwards.
The pitcher and catcher, sans
steed, are allowed to field the ball
only in a designated strip which
runs between the two men. The
infielders may field the ball only
if they liave hold o f the reins of
their mount. The outfield may
leave the donkey to pick up the
ball, but must return to their mount
before throwing it.
T h e rule which accounted for the
most outs stated that a runner
may not touch the ground after
leaving first base. The donkeys
seemed quite determined that no
one would ride them, but if one
brave person succeeded in getting
aboard he was taken for an ex
tensive ride. The mount would not
stop until he felt like it.
Players for the Lions were Dale

How Farmers Backed Stassen
W e farmers o f Minnesota have
solid behind Harold
Stassen. T h e beet proof o f this was his sweeping victory in
the farming areas o f Minnesota in his t bird elect ion after we had
liad the chance to see how he acted as Governor for two terms.
In his third election as our Governor the farmers
backed him overwhelmingly. For example, in the
corn-hog county o f Martin down near the Iowa line
Stassen received 4,881 votes to 1,717 for his opponent.
In the dairy county o f Goodhue on the Wisconsin
line Stassen received 5,535 votes to 2,711 for his op
ponent.
\ In the wheat and diversified agricultural county
o f Hock on the South Dakota line, he received 1,819
votes to 471 for his opponent.
V
And in the big agricultural county o f Otter T a il
(u p on the N orth Dakota line he received 6,327 votes
to 4.580 for his opponent. In the state as a whole he
received 409,800 votes to 299,917 for his opponent.
Ill the Township o f F.ureka. which is a com plete
township of tnilk produeers in his home eonnt> o f
Dakota, where they had known him for two terms as
county attorney ami two terms as governor, he re
ceived a remarkable vote o f l.TH to 27 for his oppo
nent*
W e know we speak for the farmers o f Minnesota as a
whole when we recommend him to you as the U*st man for
President o f the United States, in your M ay 21st primary.
W ith our neighborly ln»st wishes,
Sincerely,
