He has just received his discharge from the army, at the separation center at Fort Lewis, Washington. He entered the army Dc. ember 11, 1939 with the nation al guards at Caldwell and has Ju t returned from 17 months over seas service. He was stationed in New Guinea and at Manila in the Philippines. While at Manila he was stationed just one and one half miles from Ills brother, Pvt. William GoWey. Le-ter Gowey, storekeeper 2/c, was discharged January 3 from the navy: He served on the aircraft carrier Mtkasser Straits. Gowey, who participated in the battles of Okinawa and Iwo Jima, Is re turning to his . home at Huston, Idaho, after visiting for several days at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Gowey, and other relatives. Junior Mathews, Glen Ausman and Chet Hudson have returned home from a trip to Florence, Ari zona. ■ '• ■ • * Mr. and Mrs. K. I. Peterson en tertained Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Pier- cy and family, and Mr. and Mrs. John Auker and family, at dinner Sunday. Mrs. Threlma Elliot of Adrian, and Mrs. M. L. Judd of Newell Heights attended a county plan ning meeting in Ontario, Wednes day. Those attending enjoyed a luncheon at the Moore hotel, prior to the business meeting held in the afternoon. Mrs. Bill Looney was hostess to the young women's class of the Communtiy United Presbyterian gathering. Those present were Mrs. Lynn Hurst, Mrs. Arthur C art wright, Mrs. Dyre Roberts, Mrs. Leroy Bennett, Mrs. Harvey Ben nett, Mrs. Stanley Hill, Mrk. Fran cis Defier, Mrs. John Packwood, Mrs. Elmer Sparks, Mrs. Threlma Elliot, Mrs. W H. Bunch, and Mrs. Clyde Steelman. After pie women visited and played games, refresh ments of sandwiches, salad, pickles, cup cakes and coffee were served. . Mr. and Mrs. William Toomb en tertained Tuesday evening at a pick-up supper and card pa.ty. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Rube Graham, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Pier- cy. and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kreigh. Mr. and Mrs. Graham won high 9core and Mr. and Mrs. Pler- cy won low score In the card game. Mr. and Mrs. John Gowey and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Gowey spent Sunday In Sunny Slope at the home of Lester Lydy. Donna Maria Peterson spent ov ernight Thursday with Myrna Lane in Kingman Kolony. Dan Holly has had the ceiling remodeled In the Brown mercantile the l>a.st week. Carpenters doing the work were Alvin McGinnis and John Jarvis. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Holly and Ray mond and Ted were Sunday dinner guests at the Will Gibson home, in the Big Bend community. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Miller and L. E. Pillabury. Boy Scout troop No. 36 held its regular meeting in the high school building Monday evening. A crew working at the Sewell Packing shed started sorting seed potatoes Wednesday. Mrs. Francis Deffer entertained teh Kingman Kolony grade school teachers, Esther Fogelman and Mary Weir, a t supper Friday even ing. Several members of the Adrian United Presbyterian church attend ed the special services held at the Nampa church Thursday. Rever end J. C. Nevins of Adrian and Reverend Fred J. McConnelee of Ontario presided. Two church leaders, Dr. A. E. Kelly, national director of World wide Christian Advance, and Dr. James M, Ferguson, moderator of the general assembly spoke at the conference, held in the afternoon. Dr. Ferguson Is a close personal friend of the J. C. Nevln. Dr. Ferguson gave the address at the evening session, with 125 present. The Nampa church ladies served supper to the guests, who were at both sessions. Mrs. Maude Peck was a dinner guest Monday evening in the Clyde Steelman home. Mrs. Threlma Elliot attended a meeting of 4-H county leaders In Ontario Saturday afternoon. Wilbur Jackson Is staying with Donald .Elliot In Adrian to finsh this star's schooling. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Jackson, have gone east to visit with relatives for a few months. Mr. and Mrs. James Rudd and son. Billy, of Weiser visited S at urday in the Riley Dille home. Mr. Rudd has recently been discharged from the services after serving six years. They will soon move to Nyssa to make their home and he will work In the sugar factory. Hank Korman and Bill Willis began working at the sugar factory in Nyssa Friday on the grave yard shift. Mr. and Mrs. Gayle Martin left Saturday morning for Nebraska, to visit relatives and friends. Mar tin's mother, who has been visitir.g in the east, will return home with them. His father will manage the blacksmith shop in his absence. Mrs. Clyde Stevens and son, Mar shall, of Boise are visiting her fr:end, Mrs. H. M. Korman, for several days, in the Glen Brown home. Juanita Jones of Lower Bend and Ellen Judd of Newell Heights were overnight guests of Betty Jean Toomb Wednesday The revival meeting being held at the Free Methodist church has been well attended the past week. Evangelist Bertha McCallie of In dianapolis has given inspiring mes sages and also has shewn hymnal- ogues and pictures each night. The H. E. club met Tuesday af ternoon at the home of Mrs. K. I. Peterson. Twelve members were present. Mr. and Mrs. William Ashcraft wer callers in the Ray Drowns home in Nyssa Sunday. Ray Drown submitted to an operation on is leg last Tuesday In the Holy Rosary hospital in Ontario. He is revocering satisfactorily, but will possibly be in the hospital some time. Mr. and Mrs. K. L Peterson were Sunday dinner guests in the Geo rge De Haven home in Kingman Kolony. Mr. and Mrs. Burdett Dennon of Cannon Beach, Oregon visited in the Bill Looney home for several days the past week. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Webster and children have moved Into their new residence in Adrian from Ny ssa. He will manage the new Thompson Oil company plant that will soon be opened.
