WAR FUND DRIVE STARTED
The Red Crom war fund drive, which opened
th - week, deserves the supjx»rt of every loyal
American.
We have bought war bonds to buy fighting
equipment for our armed forces, and now we
must contribute to a.--ist the boy.- in ways that
the government cannot help.
The Red Cross, the greatest organization of
it-; kind ever organized, helps the men in the
armed forces in many ways. Among other ser­
vice-, the Red Cross collects 100,000 pints of
blood donations each week, acts a- a go-bet­
ween in the exchange of war prisoners, operates
350 service clubs overseas and aids 70,000 mer.

The Red Cross, hopes to raise $200,000,000 in
the United States, so more than the usual $1
membership fee must be contributed by each
person.
ROAD DISTRICT APPROVED
The refusal of Nyssa taxpayers to vote in fav­
or of the city’s entrance into the Nyssa road
as-e.-sment district, Saturday wa- disappoint­
ing, because favorable action would have meant
much to the farmers who sponsored the propos­
al.
The farmers are to be congratulated upon ta­
king action designed to help improve the road-
in the district. A favorable vote in the city wo­
uld have added -everal hundred thousand doll­
ars of valuation for taxation purposes. Now th­
at the district is to be organized by vote of the
rural residents, flaws, if any in the law can be
rectified as they are located. In this way a satis­
factory arrangement can be developed.
