SSA GATE CITY JOURNAL THURSDAY, DECEMBER 18 1941 r ar -------- ------------------------------ --- ----- ---- ----- ------------------ - PAGE EIGHT Cow Hollow By The B ippr Farmer This week Is a week of gkom lor what should be th# Happy Fanner Xn.as is almost upon us and both his pockets has a hole in them. The wiles purse even looks in poor con dition. This colm should ol been wrote two days ago and still cant think ol anything to write. No news, no news! This nation the busiest and facelng the biggest Job it ever has laced in Its existence. All the state olliclals rushing and dcliig all they possibly can to lar- ther the nations cause. The county and even local town olliciaU in a leavor and working day and nite lor to work out our national and local Savillan defense. That is not my line cant write that. These two community halls (The Twins) out here. The Sunset Valley and the Cow Hollow halls have ‘bur ied the hatchet’ and decided to co operate instead of fight. The Sun set Valley hall had a dance adver tised for last Saturday nite They learner] that we had one scheduled for i, re tco so they canseled theirs an sent I ose that did come on over h o e . We had the best crowd we e\ r have had and something went ‘h y-v,;re’ with our music. Not a or e si owed up nor have any-one rt eived any word for reason yet. Our little community is planning a si. ill program for Xmas Eave and a iilg Box Supper for Saturday nite following Xmas That is to be a bur affair, with ten or fifteen dollars w rth of prizes such as The Pox Diive-ln Market giveing five dollars worth of merchandise to the lady bringing the most beautiful box. The Inland Oil service station giveing two dollars and a half to the fellow who buys the highest priced box. With that much gas he should have a swell time with his Lady friend. A two fifty door prize by Wrays Dime store and other merchants helping out in other ways. All us farmers rushing about with our own problems. Russle Howell’s corncrib run over and he had to pile a big pile of corn on the ground. \iort Wixon had no crib or grainary and Claud Britton, who is farming the place had to help him build one for to put all that corn in. Leo Ut ter on Bill Parkers place had to move and no place to put his corn so he had to send out two truck loads of It. Sam Cates built him self a ’bran-new’ comcrip and got it too small for all his com and dont know what the heck to do now. Eliza Niccum has so 'darn' much to do yet and a tractor and new plow set ting In his yard idle and such fine weather for plowing too. He is In an awful stew. Chuck Share trying to finish up that barn he started over a year ago and Clarence Niccum trying to finish up that basement he started over three years ago. Chalk Butte Orange trying to stir up sentiment over ’noxious weed controll' and every other Orange in Malhure County facelng their own individual problem which they kid themselves into thinking is equal Important. 'Such as’ The Oregon Trail wanting to get some of the ‘kinks’ and dangerous places taken out of the first three or four miles of the State Highway running south of Nyssa. And the Vale Orange wanting the Government to tax Olemargin untill it will sell at the same price as good old real butter. They claim that the goverment has allowed <or compelled them to 'hop-up' the vitimine content, flavor and content of their stuff by the use of drugs and otherwise untlll it equals that of butter. They think we need the revenue now as never before and the farmers dont wish to be discriminated against. Have began to learn how to sym pathize with a poor newspaper man who has to put in six days per week. . ■- This Cow Hollow guy Is one., ui posed to put In two hours per week writelng and stiu he ge^s into more of the ’damdest’' masses He dis likes to write such news as: Arch Eastman and family was a •hopper In Boise Wensday. Mrs Kay Hunter Is shopping for Wahlne Club’s Xmas candies. Bob Rooks tool sold his hog last week. Beatrice Niccum is making coats for for her kids. Claud Britton Is shucking the last of his com. Roy Rooks tool baught a couple o f weaner pigs. Tis our Idea to take an Item and make a story such as; take our third Item; Last summer Bob Rooks tool aged twelve helped Jonnle Hamilton In first cutting of hay. In the short age of cash Jonnle gave him a wean er pig. Bob took It home and it was the onely pig on the place. The little sow got queenly care. Being the onely pig no one realized how fast she was growing. They flnaly No. Name of Owner 41,2. Baird, Qnm a . I 462. .Nyssa, Lot 3, Block 20 Coward, Thomas F ........... .....Nyssa, Park Add..
