Dec. 11 (Special)—Friends of Marvin Klemme of Burns are urging him to announce himself as a candidate (or congress on the re publican ticket. They point out that he is especially well qualified to rep resent eastern Oregon at this time because of his knowledge of both local and international problems. Mr Klemme has for several years been 'closly connected with Oregon’s two basic Industries, agriculture and forestry. He Is a graduate of the Yale forest school with several years of experience In both private and public ofrestry. He organized and was for several years In charge of the Taylor grazing administration In this state. He Is the author of numerous books and articles dealing with problems connected with the use of the land. He spent 1939 on a world tour making a first hand study of conservation methods In use In over 30 foreign countries In EM rope and Asia. He was. In fact. In Elurope for several month just prior to and Just after war broke out. Mr. Klemme Is 41 years of age and an ex-service man with a year and a half foreign service. He was for the last year been in charge of the state’s program for the handling of Its school funds. While Klemme has refused to commit himself on his candidacy, he is believed to be giving the mat ter serious consideration. ---------+-------- Buena Vista Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Gregory of New Plymouth, Miss Geòrgie Jen nings of Moulton, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Hendry of Nampa and Mr. and Mrs. M. Thocle and John of Fruitland spent Sunday at the J. W. Jennings home. Miss Jen nings and Mrs. Gregory are sisters of Mr. Jennings. Miss Jennings Is visiting her brother and family this week. Mr. and Mrs. EJmery Elliott and Mary Ann of Missouri left for their home In Missouri after spending the past two weeks at the home of Mrs. EUlott’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. A Cleaver. Alva Goodell spent Monday af ternoon at the L. E. Goodell home near Vale. The Oergon Trail Grange benefit card party was held at the E. L. Jamieson home Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Jennings and Miss Geòrgie were Ontario visitors Monday. Mrs. James Stephens and baby are visiting Mr. Stephens, who Is working on national defense at Se attle. Mrs. C. C. Wyckoff. Mrs. Leslie Topllff and Mrs. Alva Goodell at tended the meeting of the Chatter Box club at the Loyd Adams home Wednesday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Alva Goodell and Alva Jr., and Donna Belle were Sunday dinner guests at the O. E. Cheldelln home. Mrs. Loyd Adams entertained the Chatter Box club at her home Wed nesday afternoon, December 3. Mrs. Virgil McGee was elected secretary after the resignation of Mrs. Dave Mitchell. Mrs. O. E. Cheldelln gave an In teresting paper on Sweden and also led In playing games. The annual Christmas party for the club will be held December 21. No place has been named. The hostess served refreshments to one guest, Mrs. C. C. Wyckoff, and 17 members. The next meeting will be held with Florence By bee December 17. Christmas gifts will be exchanged. ------------«8« ------ NYSSA YOUTH IS MEMBER OF CHOIR Eastern Oregon College of EMuca- tin, La Grande, Dec. 11 (Special) — Doris Betty, daughter of Margaret Betty, Ontario, and Merle Kurtz, sen of R L Kurtz, Nyssa, are mem bers of the sixty-voice a capella choir at the Eastern Oregon College of Education and will take part in the first formal choir concert of the year Tuesday. December 16, at 8:15 p m In the college auditorium. Two new features of the Decem ber program will Include a madrigal group of 13 voices singing Christmas carols of foreign countries, and In strumental and vocal ensembles. The last part of the program will be a formal choir concert with members dressed In burgundy choir robes with gold dickies and stoles. Kenneth E. Schilling Is director of the choir, considered one of the outstanding organizations of Its kind In eastern Oregon. Twenty differ ent towns are represented In the choir memberihlp.
