Mr. and Mrs. Charles Crouse of
Isabel S. Dakota, a niece of Mrs. El­
vira Hicks called to see her Sunday
at the home of Mrs. Mary Hicks.
Mrs. Mary Hicks and her daugh­
ters and Mrs. Elvira Hicks called on
friends In Wilder Sunday afternoon.
The Fred Fishers and the Henry
Meiers were in Ontario Saturday
evening. Mrs. Cattlet, the ladies
sister has taken employment in On­
tario.
About 30 friends of Mrs. Vestal
Wallace, the former Mona Ore, at­
tended a miscellaneous shower giv­
en in her honor, at the home of Mrs.
Howard Jones, Friday evening. After
the card catalogue of tried recipes
was completed. Mr. and Mrs. Wal­
lace opened the packages contain­
ing their gifts. Many lovely things
were given Mrs. Wallace. China,
glass, twoels and pillowcases. Sev­
eral ladles clubbed together and
bought her a very nice electric Iron.
Miss Mona Grow and Miss Ida Nor­
land assisted Mrs. Jones with the
preparation and serving of dainty
refreshments. Mr. and Mrs. Wal­
lace are living in Ontario where he
is trucking for the local creamery
and she is keeping books at the
Boyer Dep't. store.
Miss Myrtle Walmsley spoke to
an Interested group at the morning
service of the Methodist church.
Miss Walmsley who Is well acquain­
ted in the community spoke of the
work done in the mission at Tru-
chas. New Mexico, of which she is
head. In this place 40 miles from
Sante Fe and 8,000 feet above sea
level nestled In small valleys and
basins lives a Spanish Ameriran
people And there, where Improve­
ments along all lines of work have
never entered, where tools and fur­
nishings are most primitive. Miss
Walmsley carries on a school and a
church work. Acting as nurse, doc­
tor, teacher, manager in fact about
everything.
Mrs. Ida Riley is recovering from
a wound over her ankle received
accidently Thursday when another
woman worker in the field struck
Mrs. Riley’s foot with her hoe cut­
ting a deep gash over the ankle.
Mrs. Ura Robinson Is enjoying a
visit from her three sisters who
arrived Sunday. They are Mr and
Mrs. J. W. Witthaus of St Louis
Mo. Mr and Mrs Henry Wehmey-
er of Owens vile. Mo. and Miss Ida
Ringelsen of 8t Louis. They plan
to go to the coast and visit In Cali­
fornia before returning home.
Mrs. Almon Nichols and two sons
aer staying at the parental. A. E.
Nichols home for a short visit Al­
mon has taken a job at Hermlston.
