These funds will send about seven leaders. This training school has helped greatly in giving 4H club leaders in formation that has enabled them to better meet the problems of club leadership and has helped to raise the quality of club work within the count. Last year 23 leaders from Mal heur county attended this event, most of them on scholarships pro vided by rural and civic organiza tions such as Pomona Grange, vari ous subordinate granges, the Ontario Kiwanis Club, and the Nyssa and Vale Chambers of Commerce. SALEM—The big truck bill is des tined to make a lot of noise as it goes rumbling through the session. While the proposal to permit the op eration of trucks and trailers up to 60 feet) in length and carrying loads to 68,000 pounds has the approval of Governor Sprague and the state highway commission, it is being op posed by count* courts whose mem bers see in the proposal a menace to county roads which are not built to withstand this increased strain. The Nyssa Chamber of Commerce has gone on record, however, as fav oring the passage of the above bill and Frank T. Morgan, secretary, has been appointed to represent the Chamber and to contact Senator Jones and Representative Staples asking that they ler.d their support to the bill. Morgan left this morning for Salem where he will meet with the Ways and Means Committee to morrow in behalf of ihe establishing of an Agricultural Experimental farm in Malheur county. "Growers intending to plant sugar beets in 1941 must file a request for a 1941 acreage allotment with the local offices of. the Agricultural Ad justment Administration before February 8 , 1941.” This is the an nouncement received by the local County Committee of the AAA. The filing of the request for 1941 sugar beet acreage allotments is necessary since the United States Department of Agriculture has an nounced that acreage allotments on sugar beets will be in effect through out the United States for 1941. After receiving the request from the oper ators, the county committe will then assign allotments which will be the maximum acreage that can be planted by the producer if he in tends to participate in the sugar program and receive a government payment on beets for 1941. Request for allotment blanks have been mailed to all growers who pro duced beets in 1940. Anyone who did not plant beets in 1940 and who will want to plant them in 1941 should request the blanks from the local County A.A.A. office. It is important that these requests be completely and accurately filled out and returned promptly to he County office as the allotments must be assigned to the farming units before contracts can be writ ten with the Sugar company. Acre age allotments will not be assigned to growers except on the basis of the signed request for allotments.
