BIG BEND—The local declama­
tory contest was held at the Wade
school house FYiday afternoon. The

er and the successful contestants
were Joyce Higgins, Bernice Chaney,
Donald Gibson, Mildred Sparks,

HOLDS MEETING
OREGON TRAIL—The P. T. A.
held their March meeting Friday
evening, March 15. Mrs. Holmes and
Mr. Stokes were appointed as dele­
gates to the county council at On­
tario, April 13. Mrs. Byers and Mrs.
McKee were named as a nominat­
ing committee. In the attendance
contest Miss Allen’s room get the
bowl of fish for the next month.
Mrs. Adams, 4-H sewing club led-
er, announced that Betty Chard in­
stead of Betty Rookstool, had re­
ceived the 4-H club scholarship.
The topic for discussion was “Jack
and Jill—Boy and Girl Relations” .
The main topic was summarized by
Miss Allen with Mrs. Viola Adams
and Mrs. Duffy leading the discus­
sions. Group singing by several
school pupils, a piano solo by Mary
Lou Thomason, reading by Jimmie
Reid and a vocal duet by Jane and
Wilma Adams completed the pro­
gram.
F. G. Holmes was called to Cali­
fornia Saturday by the sudden death
of his mother, Mrs. H. J. Holmes.
Mr. Holmes and Bob left Saturday
and returned Wednesday.
Mr and Mrs. H. Fuhrman and
family visited Sunday at the Tor-
vald Olson home.
Mr. and Mrs. Dick Stam were
Sunday dinner guests at the John
Stam home.
Mrs. J. B. Smith has been call­
ed home from the coast where she
has been visiting by the serious ill­
ness of her daughter-in-law, Mrs.
Dean Smith of Nyssa.
