ITH the advent of the opening of the fish

ing season every true sportsman should
resolve to help the Forestry Department in pre
venting fires— remember it is the carelessly
tossed cigarette stub or the “ heel” from a pipe
that may be the result o f a disastrous forest fire.
And while we are on the subject let us not
forget that we, as lovers of the outdoors can do
our part by leaving our camping grounds as
clean as we found it— by burying those cans,
potato peelings and such other garbage as will
naturally be left around a camp. And then
there is the matter o f being sure to put out the
fire, the best way being to cover the embers with
dirt. A camp fire left smoldering, unburied
garbage, crippled game and disrespect of the
rights o f a private land owner are poor monu
ments for a sportsman to leave behind him.

by taking part in the clean-up campaign, spon
sored by city officials and business and civic
clubs. Everyone o f us can do our share by
cleaning up our yards of rubbish that has lain
there for such a long time and if we have used
that vacant lot next door or across the alley, as a
dumping ground, the least that we can do is to
clean that up too.
The City will have trucks out to pick up refuse
that will or should be set out in cans or boxes—
the schedule will be found on the front page of
the Nyssa Journal.
There is no cost to this campaign— just a bit
of work and a lot o f civic pride!
Our city can he made to be as attractive as
any other, if we will just make up our mind to
make it so. Remember the President’s trip
through Nyssa? Who could help but feel a
tinge o f pride at the cleanliness o f our city?

The volunteer fire department will lend it’s
heln to anyone wishing to burn o ff weeds near
buildings- all that is necessary is a phone call
to the city hall— but he sure to make the ar
rangements in advance. By taking care o f the
menace of dry and unsightly weeds we will all
be helping to reduce the fire hazards this
summer.
But we can all talk until the “ cows come
home" this campaign will not be a success unless
everyone in the city takes part in it. Our city
can he made to reflect the temperament of those
living within it’s limits.
