NYSSA GATE CITY JOURNAL, THURS., SEPT,, 16, 1937 Oregon Fishing News DESCHUTES RIVER—Fair to gocd most of the way. The nearest point to Bend Is Harper Bridge where spinners have been used with success; also trolling from a boat. Mostly German Browns. Below Sheep Bridge and above or below Wikiup is good on most anything. worms will reach the big ones dur ing the day and flies get the best results In the evening. PAULINA LAKE—You can get th:-m either by boat or from the shore most any time of the day al though mid-aftemoon and evening is best. Caddis bucktail and blue METOLIUS RIVER—Pish rising upright preferred. Marshall Hunt to bucktails or small grey flies caught six nice ones on a fly fish early in the afternoon. Some of the ing from the north shore. big one weigh 2 Vs pounds. The THREE CREEK LAKE—Fly or LOWER METOLIUS has been re troll although we haven’t been told ported good on a fly but we haven’t what kind of fly to use. Producing any dope on the kind of fly used to good catches from either boat or shore. make the best catches. SPARKS LAKE—Good at last. CROOKED RIV E R -Just moder ate morning and evening on either Especially good if using a boat. Can get your limit on a caddis bucktail mosquito or salmon eggs. or ginger quill early in the morning CRESCENT LAKE—Reported ris and that means from about 7:00 to ing again—this time to trout orenos. 9:00 a. m. Not so good If one has to DAVIS LAKE- Still erratic. The wade. fish bite the best during the early SUTTLE LAKE—Uunsual—some morning and evening if there is a times you catch ’em and sometimes riffle on the lake. No riff;—no fish The best lure used is a grey hackle. you don't. DIAMOND LAKE—Not quantity but quality here. In other words, on? doesn't get his limit everytime out but the ones he gets are big and worth the try. No. 10 bucktail cad dis, grey hackle and sometimes a black gnat will do the work. Mostly evening fishing. ELK LAKE-Mr. Willcoxen says the fishermen are hauling them out two at a time cn flies. This lake is always unusually good just before the season closes so dash up now and get what you want. MUD Lake fair or a little better. EAST LAKE—Another week and East Lake still going strong. Every one repc ts swell fishing here. Seme dandies were taken on troll the other evening. ISpimters and FLASH—Berwyn Coyner made a trip into Taylor Burn (where all the little lakes are, you know) the other day and returned with the following good news: The big rainbows are biting in the Quinn Lakes and Rainbow Lake—some of them 24 Inches long, caught on fly. The catch to this FLASH is th a t the road into Taylor Burn is rough and there is a three to six mile hike added to that into most of the lakes. The best lakes to fish are those across the canyon following the Blair Lake trail.
