THERE WAS A MAN,
W HO WAS A MAN—
T
HE finest tribute you can pay a fellow is to
say, “He is a real man.” This takes in every
thing; all the qualities admired in a character
including kindness, honesty, faithfulness, and
strength of body and soul. The highest tribute
that can be paid to Allen “Buck” Johannsen is
to say, “he was a real man,” and we have heard
this expression many times since news of Mr.
Johannsen’s death in Chicago Monday.
Mr. Johannsen, known to hundreds as “Buck”
was a man well worthy of the tribute. He believ
ed in attention to duty, in straight and clean liv
ing, for the finer things of life. In his lifetime he
made manv friends, for his was the kind of per
sonality which attracted worthwhile friends.
One of the things which he took pride in
while at the dam was the little park sponsored
by the Malheur county grange; and which is
now one of the nicest recreational features at
the dam. He took a great deal of interest in this
and was one of the persons who made the park
possible. Now there is talk of naming the beauty
spot, “Johannsen Park,” and we think it a cap
ital idea. We believe “Buck” will look down
from his heavenly home with a pleased smile if
the grange saw fit to do this.
