Soft Ball Season (Jets Good Start Here Tuesday Evening Journal Team Wins From Beelers By Large Score — More Action Friday The Nyssa Soit-ball league sea son opened Tuesday evening in a cloud c( dust when the Journal team tamed the Beeler Boys, 15 to 4. Heavy hitting by the newsboys put the game on ice in the third when live runs were scored, and again in the sixth when live more runs crossed the plate. John Bowen his a home run in the first inning with Del Taylor on base, but a threatened scoring spree was nip ped when Dilley whiifed the ozone (or a third strike. Ed Pruyn served behind the bat for the newsboys, while Alvin Kuehn and Dean Smith were battery mates for the Beelers. Another Game Friday Another league softball game will be played Friday evening when the Reclamation team and the newly organized Outlaw team tangle. Little Is known of the Out law's strength, as they did not get in on any of the pre-season prac tice games, but are said to have a pretty swift outfit. Rev. Floyd White has been getting up the team and Grant Rinehart has been named as manager. Several high school boys are on the team, as well as ex-ball playing oldsters. Next Tuesday’s schedule brings the Beeler Boys and the Outlaws together and the following Friday the Journal and Reclamation will tangle. Last Friday the Journal team walloped the Safeway gang of On tario, 19 to 8 and got some revenge for a 23 to 6 licking administered at Ontario the week before. This Friday the Journal team will travel to Ontario for a return game with Safeway and Sunday afternoon will play a team of Mexican picked from beet workers here from Calif ornia. Reclamation at Caldwell The Reclamation team has been playing in the Caldwell league since most of the players will be residents of Caldwell after June first. Friday night they played the C. C. Wednesday afternoon after school the ladies of this community gave a party in honor of Mrs. Herbert Fisher, Mrs. Ed. Simmerman, and Miss Genleveve Dixon, teachers at the Apple school who are not planning to return next term. Mrs. Fisher and Mrs. Simmerman have taught here for several years and Miss Dixon has taught here tue past two years. Dainty refresh ments were served and each teach er presented with a lovely gift after an hour of visiting. We shall greatly miss these teachers in our community as each has done much for the good of the boys and girls whom she has taught. New teachers who have been elected to fill the above vacancy are Miss Anderson. Miss Hickey ant Miss McKinney. Yulah Vertrees, Leona Kuhlman, Virginia Schultz and Norma Stout went to the Home Economics ban quet in Parma Friday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Johnson and Duane, Mr. and Mrs. Cedric Cald well and children, Mrs. Glen Van Landingham and Bonnie Jean and Mr. and Mrs. Conley Wilson and Jeanette of Nampa were dinner guests Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Caldwell. She was also recently honored at a shower in Nampa. Mr. and Mrs. French and child ren of Roswell were dinner guests Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Leigh. Mrs. Glen Van Landingham and daughter Bonnie Jean arrived Thursday from Wheatland, Calif ornia to spend several weeks visit ing at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Caldwell. Mrs. Ivan Van Landingham came with her and is visiting at the home of her parents in Marsing. Mr. and Mrs. Levi Stephens were week end visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Melvedt in Boise. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Reed have moved to their new apartment in Parma. The J. N. Meador family drove to the Owyhee Dam Sunday. The Holidays have rented the McDonald place. Mrs. E. A. Summy is working in the County Superintendent’s ofifee in Caldwell this week correcting exam papers. Wednesday morning the 8th graders went to Parma where they took their final exams.
