NICHOLS 6 1 DIES
NYSSA, OREGON

IS BEING ATTENDED
Death descended suddenly on the
Otis Nichols family Tuesday, tak
ing away little Minnie Arratle Nich
ols, aged 9 years, 11 months and a
day. Minnie was visiting at the
home of her sister Mrs. Kenneth
Green at the Sleep orchard north
of Nyssa. About four o ’clock Tuesday
afternoon she fell a short distance
out of a tree while playing with
some companions, breaking her arm
quite badly. She was taken to On
tario to have the arm set and died
. while under the anesthetic.
The sudden death was a distinct
shock to the famly, who live in
Rockville, and to the friends of the
family. Minnie had only been visit
ing with her sister since school was
out last Friday and had Just passed
the fifth grade.
She was born at Harrison, Arkan
sas and passed away at Ontario on
Tuesday, May 19th. She leaves her
father and mother, Mr. and Mrs.
Otis Nichols of Rockville and three
sisters, Mrs. Verla Green, Irene and
Lucille; and five brothers, Olen,
Norman, Floyd, J. R. and Clyde.
Funeral services were held from
the Community church Thursday
with the Rev. Floyd White in charge
of the services. The Eagles assisted
in making arrangements for the
funeral. Music was furished by Mrs.
J. W. Poage and Mrs. A1 Thompson,
accompanied by Mrs. Floyd White
at the piano. Interment was in the
local cemetery.
Civic Club Plans
Flower Display
Something new in the line of en
tertainment is being prepared by the
Nyssa Civic Club for their Guest Day
meeting next Wednesday, May 27 at
the Eagles hall. Besides a program a
spring flower display will be held,
under the direction of Mrs. C. W.
Barrett. Anyone having flowers are
urged to bring them and have them
on display. No prizes will be given,
nor will there be any competition of
any kind, this being given merely to
get together all different kinds of
flowers grown in this vicinity which
bloom at this time, and to create
more interest In growing flowers and
beautifying yards.
As usual, the club is issuing an
invitation to everyone living in this
vicinity to attend their Guest Day
meeting. This includes old members,
new comers to this community and
especially are the new settlers of the
Owyhee project asked to come and
get acquainted with their city
sisters.
Mrs. Frank Morgan is program
chairman for the day, and she has
announced that after the busi
ness meeting, the following num
bers will be given, vocal solo by Mrs.
C. L. McCoy; violin solo, Mrs. Her
bert Fisher; other musical numbers
and a one-ace play, entitled “The
Mechanical Jane” , which is being
prepared under the direction of Mrs.
Wm. Schireman will conclude the
program.
After the program refreshments
will be served all present with Mrs.
Schireman as hostess.
As a climax to an enjoyable after
noon. all visitors desiring to go, will
be taken on a tour of the many nice
yards and gardens in Nyssa, and
also to the noted Barrett gardens. It
is expected that a large crowd will
take advantage of this opportunity
to see these lovelv yards.
