He is associated with En gineer McConnell, who drew up the plans and specifications for the system. Actual digging of dirt will start next week, according to Ek Lind. Portland ocntractor who is In Nyssa getting arrangements made. The work will require approxi mately 30 men, according to Mr. Lind and these will have to be certi fied through the Ontario PWA em ployment office. Preference will be given to local unemployed able to do the work and if there are 30 qual ified men in Nyssa; they will do the work. Preference will also be given local concerns in the purchase of materials Mr. Lind said. A trench ing machine and a back-fill rig will be used to speed the work. The trenches will be 12 feet deep in places and taper down to a five foot minimum. While work will start next week and pushed forward as fast as pos sible, no approximate date for com pletion of the job can be made at this time. The Job Is required to be finished by July 1st, but will be pushed through to completion as early as possible. A. R. Hunter, PWA engineer-dir ector, is here and will have charge of inspection; Ek Lind will be in charge of construction while Carl Isinberg will be the city’s engineer. The line will start at the high school, run down the alley back of the Community church to the rear of Powell Service Station, where It will run two blocks north to 2nd and Ehrgood, turn and run east to the pumping plant located on the west side of the railroad right-of-way on the northwest corner of Block 6. at the Junction of Ehrgood and thè rail road right-of-way. The sewerage will be lifted at the pumping plant, sent under the railroad and down to the settling tank located near the river. There will be a 12 Inch line from the river to the pumping plant and to the comer of 2nd and Ehrgood. There Is a 10 inch line running down Second to the rear of Powell’s Service and the balance of the line will be eight Inch. There Is also an eight Inch feeder line running down the alley back of the Owyhee Hotel and a similar line running down the alley on the other side of the street; both going to the rairoad right-of- way. There will be two pumps at the pump station, with a capacity of 1120 gallons per minute at 70 per cent efficiency. The plant is de signed to accomocjete a large sys tem. Some comparison can be gath ered when one considers the city water system has a capacity at the present time of 200 gallons per min ute while the pumping plant will be able to handle nearly six times this amount.
