AAA SPRING WHEAT CHANGE MEANS LITTLE TO OREGON Operators of Irrigated farms in Oregon w h o customarily plant spring wheat may profit from the recent liberalizing of planting re strictions by the agricultural ad justment officials, but the change will mean little to the great major ity of wheat contract holders in this state. In the opinion of extension leaders at OSC who have examined the new regulations. When Secretary Wallace issued the southwestern wheat section, the new regulations as an offset to the threatened continued drouth in definite limits were set as to the new acreage contract holders can seed and still be eligible for their 1935 benefit payments. The grower must agree not to add more than 75 per cent to his base acreage, must agree to cooperate In the new wheat pro gram If and when It Is offered, and must continue his present contract ed acreage. Any excess planted this year Is to be deducted In 1936 if call ed for. Extension officials point out that the privilege of shifting acreage be tween two years Is already held by growers in the summer fallow re gions of Oregon, while In the west ern Oregon diversified section it Is considered too late to plant spring wheat for satlfactory yields. March 1 estimates of spring wheat planting showed intentions to plant to be below that of the small acre age planted In 1934, though this estimate was made before the re strictions were modified. The land spring wheat areas of eastern Mon tana, the Dakotas and Minnesota may iSap considerable advantage from the new rules, It is believed. WOOL CONSIGNING STILL RECOMMENDED Sheep men whose flocks have been financed through Farm Credit ad ministration lending agencies are given the privilege of selling their wool on the open cash market this spring, but recommendation Is still made that they consign to an ap proved cooperative organization or private dealer for purposes of or derly marketing. The practice of making consignments instead of selling hastily at shearing time is credited with having brought the wool industry out of a panicky con dition and Into a position of relative staballty. Land Bank Interest Rate Reduced to 4*/2 W e Are Equipped to Grind Valves on all Cars including the Effective April 1, mortgage loans approved and submitted by local borrow-owned associations are be-1 lng closed by the Federal Land bank : of Spokane on a 4t4 per cent inter est basis, the lowest since this co operative mortgage system was or ganized in 1917. Loans which come directly to the bank without local ! association indorsement bear 5 per cent interest, as do so-called "com- | missloner" offered principally for | emergency refinancing purposes. Land bank mortgages are written i on the amortization plan whereby normally a portion of each install- ment applies to reduce the principal so that at the time of maturity <10 I to 36 years) the debt is automatic ally liquidated.
