It occurs to the Journal that these prophesies m ost, in the nature of the case, he purely guess work. The imp< - ¡¡bility of taking any Scrip tural reference to the subject at its face value has been proven time and again. For instance, Chri i’s statem ent that “This gee, ration shall not pass till all theso things (signs of the end of the worn) he fulfilled.” That would seem to be a simple and easily understood statement, tm ..ling that the millions then living would not die until the end came. But it seems that was not the meaning at ail. It simply means th a t the gener ation that happens to be living when the end comes, it may be 20(H) years hence, will not pass until the signs that foretell the end shall have been fulfilled. It r juir d considerable study to correctly interpret this passage and there is strong evidence th at thoje who were living at t ime the statem ent was made f ..led tu grasp the true m e a n i n g f r standard histories of the church state th at the early Chri tiaus looked daily for the end of the world until the close of . lesecond century A. D. They must have t o t this idea from the teaching of Christ a n d the Apostles. Hence we see how easy it is f • people to be mistaken aa to the meaning of seemingly sim 1 ly statem ents of the Bible and we hould not be too severely censured if we are somewhat skeuticai of the ability afpresent day forecasters to correctly in terpvc. the obscure prophetic utterances upon which they base their belief.
