County Estimate— Price Outlook

A series o f turkey marketing meet
ings were held last week by the Ida-
ho-Oregon turkey growers
associa
tion cooperating with R. G. Larson,
county agent. George McKnight o f
Vale, president o f the
association,
and Mrs. C. G. Brink, secretary, dis
cussed marketing o f this year’s tur
key crop and told growers that in
view o f information now
available
they believed prices equal to or a
little better than last year could be
expected due to the fact that cold
storage stocks are practically - ex
hausted and imporations were very
small.
The Northwest Turkey
growers
was discussed at these meetings.
The northwest corporation is a con
solidation o f marketing oiganiza-
tions now in existence but it was ap
parent the general concensus of opin
ion is that the Idaho-Oregon pool
should market as in past years. One
change in policy o f the Idaha-Oregon
is in grading o f the birds. This pro
vides for a grade in addition to the
No. 1 and No. 2 used in the past— an
intermediate grade for birds which
meet the requirements o f No. 1 grade
in everything except weight. The in
termediate grade takes care of light
weight birds and it is expected the
price will be about two cents lower
than No. 1.
Mrs. Brink expressed a great deal
o f surprise at the number of turkeys
there are in Malheur county this
year. It appears that there are fully
as many or more than last year. In

Here is a good thing to bear in mind:
DUART
When an investment proposition offers big returns
with very little chance of loss, it is not necessary to
send salesman around the country letting the public in.
The next time a stranger comes to you with a “ sure-
shot” business opportunity, ask yourself if he isn’t
going to a good deal o f trouble in order to let you
make some money. Ask yourself why he didn’t let a
few big financiers handle it. If a thing is safe for
you, it would have been safe for them.

Phil Metschan stands for the following principles and policies:
(1 ) The State of Oregon providing its school children with Free Text Books.
He recognizes the injustice o f forcing families o f small means to purchase school books for their
children. O r-g m is one o f five states in which the parents are compelled to buy school books.
Thousands o f children are thrown behind in their studies at the opening o f every term because their
parents are unable to purchase books for them. This shameful condition is placing children o f iamilie.-
o f low income at a disadvantage and building up a class consciousness.
(2 ) Old Age Pensions. Such policy is a duty, not a largess for misfortune comes to the aged even
though they hase born industrious amt law-abiding citizens during all their days o f youth and prime
and hsve dcvelopevi exemplary characters and pride.
(3 ) Minimum Wages for Girts in Stores. Common decency <o demands.
(4 ) Workmen's Compensation Act. The present act certainly needs careful and great revision.
(5 ) Child Lab.ir. The child labor amendment to the Federal Constitution should be
Oregon State Legislature without further delay.
