This week’s issue of the Gate City Journal comes to you under new
management, the plant subscription list and good wil* has been taken over
by the undersigned, and in keeping with a time-worn custom we wish to
say a few words concerning ourself, by way of introduction, that you may
know something about the new pencil pusher, who will endeavor to man the
editorial as well as the mechanical end of the Journal.
In the beginning we desire to state that we are not a Horace Greeley nor
a Daniel Webster, and therefore we hope you will not expect us to produce
many literary gems which could possibly come in their class. However, we
do expect to print a paper that you will be glad to read and look forward to
from week to week. We want our readers and subscribers to feel that the
Journal is “ your paper.” We want every man, woman and child to be our
friend and we want to be counted in on every movement which will add to
the material, financial or social well being of each and every individual
citizen or to any public or community enterprise.
Lack of acquaintance and the fact that for a few weeks we are going to
be mighty busy getting the office in tip-top shape, places us under a decided
handicap, but with your cooperation we hope to make The Journal a news
paper that the community can feel proud of.
No doubt the many friends of Mr. W. S Brown, who has been at the
helm of the Journal, will be sorry to learn o f his retirement from the news
paper business in Nyssa, and we hope that the business men and readers, who
by their subscriptions, job printing and advertising patronage, have made it
possible to build the Journal up to its present standard as a county news
paper will continue to support the home-townpaper under the new manage
ment as liberally as in the past.
Just as a chain is as strong as its weakest link, and as one of the main
links in the chain of community progress is that community’s newspaper, we
want your undivided support, In return, if we are given that cooperation,
we pledge to you as good a newspaper for the size of the town and com
munity as is published anywhere. We ask only patronage in keeping with
the service we render.
Trusting that we may receive and retain your every confidence. We know
we will like Nyssa and we hope Nyssa will like us.
To our brethern of the press, in this locality, we say howd'y. We hope
to meet and get personally acquainted with you all soon.
We will also operate a first-class job department in connection with the
newspap-r and are prepaied to give you first class job printing of every de
scription. No job is too small or too large for us to handle, and we will
endeavor to give you prompt service.
