Qualified as Marksmen
Seventy eight per cent of the stu-
dent eoldier« in attendance at the Cit
izen* Military Training camp at Camp
Lewi* June 19 to July IK who fired the
record course in rifle markrmanship
qualified either ae »barpahooter* or a*
marksmen, according to figures that
have been completed at headqutarter*.
The number completing the course is
466 of which 30 qualified as sharp
shooters and 366 as marksmen. In
cluded among those who qualified en
the rifle range are George U Newby
and Earl R. Richardson of Nyssa.
Sidney Emison killed
Word has been received of the
death last Saturday evening
of Sidney Emison, 26 yeat*eld
son of Mr. and Mrs. Saafcrd
Emison of San Diego. Cal. Bis
death was caused by injuries
sustained wtieb'he fell with his
airplane when itt crashed to
earth. Sidney was born at
Nyssfi, where he lived with hie
parents until they moved to Cal
ifornia 15 years ago.

MAXWELL-WARD
The marriage of Cariane Maxwell
and H. J. Ward was celebrated in New
Plymouth, Idaho, on Tuesday evening
of July SI. Th* welding, which was
a very pratty one, took place on the

the couple walked to a bast ground *f
green and flowers, whose the short
but impreotive ring ceremony was
performed by Rev. A. I. Forth, Con
gregational minister.
Mrs. Chat. Campbell played several
selections before the wedding and
then Lobengren’s weddidg march.
Members of the immediate family,
a few friends and Rev. and Mrs.
Fereh were the guests. Refreshments
were sarvad following the ceremony.
Corinae Maxwell in the trail kaawn
daughter of Mrs. M. M. Maxwell and

cemplishedynusician. Mr. Ward, who
ie also well known, is president af the
Malheur County Bank.
They are spending a few weeks in
the Blue mountains and then will he
at home at Parma, Idahe, R. R. 8.
Attend Summer Session

0 A. C. The total engillment is 6J0,
including the fee paying auditors and
special musie students. In addition
463 beys and girls attended the junior
summer session, and several hundred
sis registered for swimming only
This makes the total number of stu
dents served by the college during
the summer session more than 1200.
The college is one of the institu
tions selected by the United States
Indian service for the Indian school
teaohsra to attend during educational
leave. Thirty-hve men and «emeu
iaetraetors in I idian schools from
North Dakota, South Dakota. Idaho,
Moatana, Washington and Oregon are
ia attendance.

St. Paul’s Guild of the Episcopal
church will giva a lawn social at the
J. Boydeil residence. Ice cream, cake,

There were three E. J. Burroughs
in town this week. There was
our fellow townsman by that name,
his son, E. J. Junior, and hit
son’s son, E. J. Juniot Second. The
burroughs, including Mrs. E. J., vis
ited hers from Seattle for a faw days,
returning home Thursday.
Mra. Robert Elliott and daughters,
Nallie and Rada, visited Mr. Frank
Stubba Thursday.
