incubator for three weeks, with its at­
tendant cure and expense, if the eggs

should he thoroughly familiar with the
method of testing eggs.
An egg,
whether it is fertile or not, has a small
grayish spot, known us the germinal
spot, on the surface of tiie yolk. As
soon as a fertile egg is placed under
a hen or in an incubator the develop*
ment of the germ begins. Ail eggs
should he tested at least tw-ce during
the incubation period, say poultry spe­
cialists of the United States Depart­
ment of Agriculture. This is done
preferably on the seventh add four­
