General Azgapetlnn served gallantly
In the Russian armies In the Caucasus
against the Turks. Ills wife, who ac
companied him to the front, did noble
work for the wounded and sick, and
II was while In lids service that her
baby was horn la a hospital tent daring
a battle. An army blanket swung from
two poles In one corner o f the tent was
the baby’s crib during the rest o f that
terrlhle winter campaign.
With the
collapse o f the Russian armies after
the Bolshevist revolution the Azgupe-
tlans returneil to Armenia for n brief
spell and did their best to alleviate
the suffering they found on every hand.
But with a Turkish price on his head
the father finally made his way with
hi» fam ily through Russia to Finland
nnd then to this country. What they
tell of conditions nnd needs In Armenia
Is first hand evidence.
In the Caucasus, Armenia, Syria,
Turkey nnd Persln are more than 2TO,-

w »r, massacre and deportation, nnd
for the great m ajority the only bar be
tween them nnd absolute starvation
Is a bowl o f hot bean soup every day.
This soup Is supplied by the Near East

the American people for sufficient
funds to Increase tlds dole and to pro

clothing and give them an education
that will help them to become self sup

It Is estimated that m or«

die o f starvation unless American aid
