Scuttle. Wash.—Cholera Is causing
many deaths in Hongkong, Shanghai
and Manila, according to news brought
by the steamship Chicago Maru. There
were 275 cases of the disease in Manila
and 169 deaths in a week.
MRny deaths have also occurred in
Hongkong and Shanghai. No whites
or Japanese have died, however, in
either China or Ihe Philippines, and
the authorities were hopeful of hav
ing the disease in check when the
Chicago steamed for this coast.
