All have been busy the past
month here at the Senior Center
From January 8 to February 8,
141 miles have been logged, 38
passengers, plus 89 hours; 449
miles on the pickup plus 46
volunteer hours.
Our faithful volunteers — for
rolling papers — working in the
flea market and library — have
donated 399 hours of their time
for the one month period. Their
help and efforts are certainly
appreciated That was including
building fire, hauling papers and
items for flea market, plus the
time on the recycling project
Thanks to all.
Now, the next few days w ill go
in to planning and getting ready
for the basket social Thursday
February 14 at 6:30 in the
evening Hopefully we can ac­
quire a g<xid fund for the
Vernonia Ambulance fund
Next business meeting and pot
luck w ill be held, Friday March
2, at 12:30 p m . All Seniors
welcome.

Marriage vows were exchang­
ed February 2 at the Evangelical
church uniting Melody Strong
and Richard Devine
Miss Strong is the daughter of
Mr and Mrs. Carson Strong and
Mr Devine the son of Clair
Devine of Vernonia and Mr
Donald Bennett of Eugene
The double-ring ceremony was
performed by Rev. Jack 'C arl­
son. pastor of the Evangelical
church at two o'clock
The bride's gown was of white
embroidered organza over white
taffeta, fashioned with bouffant
tiered skirt with empire waist.
She wore a floor length veil of
illusion The bridal gown and
veil were designed and made by
the groom’s mother. Mrs Ben
nett. The bride's attendants
dress was floor length white
organza over pink and the train-
bearer wore a floor-length dress
of nink and green
A reception followed in the
social room of the church Cake
was served by Mrs Larry
Strong, punch by Sheryl Devine,
Hors d'oeuvres by Mrs Bruce
Berndt, Mrs Jack Seeley and
Mrs Ben Westbrook and coffee
by Vickie Strong
The guest book was attended

The rehersal dinner was ser­
ved, buffet style, Friday evening
al the home of Richard Devine
by his mother and step-father
Mr and Mrs Donald Bennett of
Eugene,
A group of young people from
Portland Union Academy w ill be
in Vernonia, February 16 at the
Seventh-day Adventist church.
They w ill provide special music
for the Sabbath School service
and conduct the entire church
service.
This w ill be a program of
special interest to young people,
as these students w ill be speak­
ing especially to those of their
age. A special invitation is
extended to all Vernonia youth.

Conference held at the Thunder

One of the speakers was Dr
Howard Stroud, Executive D i­
rector, Oregon Heart Assoc who
told of special new courses in
cardiopulmonary resuscitation
instructor training
They also heard about federal
funding for emergency medical
services, from William O King
man, who is area director, U.S
Department of Transportation
The team concept of emer
gency care was the subject of a
seminar by R.L. Lewis, M D
director ot Emergency Medical
Services at Salem Memorial
Hospital
Brigadier General Richard A
M iller, Adjutant General, Ore­
gon National Guard spoke on
using the Med-Vac Helicopter
Evacuation and the coordination
of National Guard equipment to
aid civilians in times of disaster
or emergency.
Ms Ruth Shoepe. Washington
County office of Emergency
Planning lectured on the deve­
loping of Community Disaster
Preparedness Programs.
Along with new thoughts and
ideas for Vernonia's EM T pro­
gram they also brought home
Vernonia’s own ECG monitoring
machine, the first of several
pieces of cardiac equipment that
donations for the Heart Machine
fund w ill purchase The machine
has been used several times
already by E M T ’s making runs
in the ambulance to monitor
possible coronary problems.

The fam ily potluck earlier
announced for February 16 has
been postponed until March 2. It
w ill be held at the legion Hall
and start at 7 p.m. with dancing
and cards to follow.

The January 26 wedding of
Linda Jean Christensen and
Timothy P. Conroy was witnes­
sed by many out-of-town and
local guests at the Beaverton
First Methodist Church. O ffici­
ating was Episcopal Priest Dan

Falls and Rev. Walter Warner of
the Beaverton Methodist Chur
ch The Rev. Thompson is a
family friend, form erly of Pen
dleton, Oregon
Escorted to the alter by her
lather, the b rid- wore a floor-
length eyelette gown with em­
pire waistline, long sleeves with
six button cuffs and stand-up
collar Her veil was held in place
with a bandeau covered with
white daisies, pink baby rose,
babys breath and sprigs of ivy.
She carried a white prayer book
her bother had carried With a
six pence her father had saved
from his World War II travels in
her shoe and a personalized blue
garter, she completed her re­
quirements of tradition, of
something old, something new,
something borrowed and some
tiling blue Her bouquet was pink
carnations, white daisies, oran
ge roses and sprigs of ivy
started Irom ivy Irom her cou­
sin's wedding bouquet. Stream
ers of pink ribbon completed the
arrangement.
The church was decorated
with an alter bouquet and circu ­
lar candlabra of white daisies,
pink and orange carnations and
masses of greens, Pew bows
with orange carnations, pink
riblxin and fern adorned the first
pew on either side of the aisle.
The bride's sister, Mrs Jackie
DesChane of Pasco, Washing­
ton. was matron ol honor and the
groom's sisters, Marcie and
Mary Beth Keasey of Vernonia
acted as junior bridesmaids
Their identical floor length, flo r­
al gowns were pink and white
daisies and orange rose of

The bride, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Eugene E. Christensen of
Beaverton, graduated f r o m
Beaverton High in 1867. She
attended Western Business and
Bryman School She is presently
employed as a dental assistant in
Portland
The bridegroom attended Ver­
nonia grade and High and Blue
Mt College in Pendleton He is a
verterán of the U.S. Navy and is
now employed as a pilot at
Hillsboro Aviation His mother,
Mrs Ralph Keasey of Vernonia
and Ins father, John Conroy of
Pendleton, took part in the
witnessing of the ceremony and
the reception which followed as
did his step-parents. Ralph Kea
sey and Mrs John Conroy.
Serving were the bride's cou­
sin. Mrs Gerald Coulsey and her
aunts, Mrs. Glyne Gergen and
Mrs George Fuller all of Port­
land
For her going away suit the
bride made a pink pants suit and
a blouse of the same material as
the attendants dresses
She
made all the dresses in the
wedding party
Following their honeymoon in
Hawaii, the couple w ill be home
in Portland
