Jay Ahlborn County Commissioners Office St Helens. Ore 97051 Dear Jay, As you know I have d ifficulty expressing myself verbally and so I humbly submit this letter for your consideration Three years ago we met in the offices of N.W.P. to discuss the rebuilding of the lodge at Co lumbia Countv’s Camp W ilker son At this time, I felt the need to rebuild the lodge for basically two reasons F irst. I was com pelled by the personal challenge to do the work Secondly, by the urgency to get something started before the public sentiment could die down At this tim e I feel that both of these have been generously fulfilled The ensuing three years have brought to me more than my measure of re ward The cooperation and working relationship with you. Jay. and men like W illard Flock, John Peter and Gene Hebisen. Del Burnham, Orvil Gilkey. Franklin Anderson and many many others whose names now’ excape me, w ill prove to provide some of the mast rewarding memories of my life I have felt from the beginning that if coun ties facilities at Camp Wilkerson could provide the key to turn one young boy or g irl away from a life of dark street corners and dissipation all the effort on our part and the part of the original builders would be compensated to full measure The building of personal or national assets requires the dearest of prices paia but when achieved also provide the strongest of personal or national security I firm ly feel that the assets of Camp Wilkerson w ill be one of the pillars of Columbia County's building for tomorrow I now must get on to the part that bites Jay. due to the increasing demands of my busi ness and the ever grown de mands of my fam ily. I find that I must tender my resignation to Columbia County Park Com mission I feel that my com m it ment to Wilkerson has been realized and I have been more than rewarded I am confident that you and the board w ill find no difficulty in obtaining a replacement I now would like to thank you, Jay, and all those people in volved for the personal fu lfill ment I received the last three years Yours very truly, Stuart B Johnson To the Editor It is with profound regret and deep sense of loss that I accept the resignation of Stuart B Johnson from the Columbia County Park Commission This resignation was necessitated by growing business and fam ily demands On behalf of the Park Com mission and the citizens of Columbia County. I would like to thank Mr Johnson for the fore sight and devotion exhibited during his three year tenure on the Commission The amazing success of the Camp Wilkerson rehabilitation would not have been possible without the sense of urgency and perseverence of men like Stuart Johnson Most of all. I would personally like to thank Stuart for helping this county to give tangible proof of our commitment to our child ren’s future A J Ahlborn Editor s note: The following is a collection of correspondence between Mrs Gertrude Sulleng er of the Warm Wayside Market and various federal officials each state based on total number of licensed drivers in that state Divide this amount equally amongst all current retailers, wholesale distributors and gas company owned outlets, regard less of past gallonage or size of outlet on a strict calendar monthly alotment. As we are all now doing we each would alot ourselves a daily quota The large retailers would than pump less and the smaller retailers could not pump all of their quota This would slow down sales drastically but stop wholesalers from selling to private individ uals with up to 500 gallon tanks for personal use. also stop co-ops from selling to their employees in an unlimited amount Let the public buy as they need if they need to drive they w ill buy If they don’t need to drive they won’t and when the retailers have pumped their daily ration there just won’t be any for the public. Just heard, no Sunday sales, please don't. This w ill k ill many small retailers who uses this day to cover their mortgage payments while the large re ta il ers are now closed This w ill cause a lot of high school boys to lose their jobs. Gertrude D. Sullenger Warren. Oregon Dear Friend Thank you so much for your wire of November 25 setting forth certain suggestions for gasoline distribution and con sumption Please be assured that I read your wire with great care and interest, and am very glad to have the benefit of your thoi iought- fu) suggestions I am bringing your w ire to the attention of Governor Love, in order that he may be apprised of your specific suggestions Cer tainly, I shall have your views firm ly in mind at such tim e as energy legislation should come on the Floor of the House for consideration Best wishes Sincerely yours, Wendell Wyatt Member of Congress Dep of Sec Treasury Simons Washington D C. M r Simons in reference to my November 25th m ailgram to Geo P. Shultz-please try equal allocation to all gasoline whole sale and retail outlets. The metropolitan areas where there is public transportation is get ting so much more gas than outlying areas, where we don’t have public transportation We are all conserving every way possible but we ask-like the truckers-to be treated equally and fa irly This way of allocation would cut down on usage and get gas out where people need it to get to work My customers, who drive 25-40 miles to work are getting only 6-10 gallons at a time and I have only 600 gallons per day and am out of gas by 3 to 6 p.m I am closing on Sundays and Wednesdays. Thank You sir Gertrude D Sullenger Warren, Oregon Dear Ms Sullenger I am replying to your mail- gram to Secretary Shultz con cerning suggestions on gasoline distribution and consumption As you may know, the Presi dent announced the establish ment of a new Federal Energy Adm inistration to be headed by W illiam E Simon, who w ill also serve as Deputy Secretary of the Treasury The Federal Energy Administration w ill be dealing with energy policy and opera lions including the m atters con tained in your letter to Secretary Shultz For this reason. I am taking the liberty of sending your letter directly to the appro priate section of the new Federal Er Ralph’s Chevron Station. According to the sign “Comments or Complaints? England. Nelson adapted it for the high school group since he believed there was a definite need for a Christmas program of this type in the community. Since the school doesn't own an organ it was decided to hold the ‘ ‘Vespers’’ in various churches each year where not only the music but the warmth of the religious setting would add to the program BEST WISHES It's Old Lang Syne time — have yourself a Happy N ew Year.
