Demon ia Eagle « THURSDAY, DEC 13 1973 YHS Rally Falls Short Of Victory The Vernonia Loggers fell short of a victory Saturday, December 8. when they traveled to Banks to play the Class AA Braves The first quarter looked pretty gray for the loggers, as Banks outscored them by twelve points The period ended with the score Vernonia eight and Banks twen ty In the second period the Log gers added four more field goals than did the opposition, but fouls kept the lead out of their grasp in the first half The half ended seeing a score of 34-24 the Loggers on the short end Vernonia outscored the Braves by two points in the third period, as Digger fans began thinking a victory was in the making The quarter ended with the score at 36 to 44 The last period went fast when the Loggers began to press the home team and they fought their way to within six points of the lead before the buzzer sounded to end the game Coach Curtis believes the ma terial is there if the team gets its defense together, and keeps its present attitude The Loggers travel to Neah-Kah-Nie Tues day, December 18 Wrestlers Take Loss From Neah-Kah-Nie Last Thursday night the Ver nonia Loggers wrestled the Neah-Kah-Nie Pirates on their home mat but were defeated by the double " A " school. Five of the wrestlers won their match Rob Hanson. 106 lbs., took his match in the first round. Gayle Slaughter. 115 lbs., also got his in the first round. Jim Thompson wrestling 157 lbs beat his opponent in the second round: Loy Moore weighing 168 defeated his man in the first round and Dan McLean. 191 lbs., took his match in the first round Cary Holsey one of the fresh man wrestlers weighing 115 lbs tied his match at 16-16 The wrestlers were defeated 32 to 41 THE TIMBERLINE COMPILED BY THE Parrow Warns Bus Riders Recently some of the VHS students who ride the buses home have been getting in the way of the buses while they are trying to park and load To discourage this behavior and perhaps to prevent someone from getting injured Principal Arthur Parrow came up with three suggestions The suggest ions were announced to the student body over the intercom system Tuesday, December 4 The first suggestion was to extend the school day until buses are parked and ready to load Second, have students load the buses in the lane between the grade school and the high school The third suggestion was to have all students stay in the building until buses are ready to load These three suggestions need not to be put into effect if students riding the bus act civilized and mature, instead of acting like wild animals ripping each other apart to get into the bus Some Toys Not Fully Enjoyed It's almost Christmas time, the favorite time of the year for manufacturers and big business Christmas decorations have been out since October Merch ants have been advertising "Christmas Specials" even be fore Halloween was over The stores are filled with all kinds of new toys and games for the Christmas Season, including, expensive gadgets they want people to buy for the kids Buying expensive toys for kids seems rather silly. L ittle kids sometimes have more fun play ing with the box or the wrapping than they do with the toy that is inside People buy expensive paint sets when the child would pro bably have more fun with a box of crayons and some paper or a coloring book Before one buys an expensive toy for a child, we should stop to consider whether or not the child might have more fun playing with a set of measuring spoons they could find in the kitchen Sauvies Provides Ducks for Students HOMELITE TOY CHAIN SAW ’ 7.95 Vi »calc replica of the Homelite 150 Automatic Chain Saw * On-Off switch * Sounds like a real chain saw * Non-cutting bead chain rotates * Release trigger and chain stops KEASEY'S SAW SHOP 292 Bridge St. 429-5555 Dave Clason. VHS Student Enjoys New Locker Door At the beginning of the school year, Chris Collins was issued a ¡ocker with a faulty door This door was brutally assaulted throughout the school year by many students As the year progressed the hinges gave out one at a time until the bottom hinge was the only one left The door was maliciously attacked and removed from the one remaining hinge by a brutal person who shall remain name less Chris continued to use this door even though it was hinge less Then one evening aftei basketball practice, he went to his locker and the door was missing After hours of search ing and questioning eye witness es. the door was located in the first stall of the ladies' room He refused to go in after it. and had a senior girl retrieve it for him He then delivered it to the office as a Christmas present for the principal After veiled threats by both parties the situation was re solved by moving Chris to another locker and replacing the door on his old locker After witnessing the fine quality of work done on his old locker he promptly relocated himself back where tie bad started He par ticularly likes his new door because it is the onlv green one in all of VHS NOW IN VERNONIA ON TUESDAYS ANO FRIDAYS 10:80 A.M. to A.M. to B ridge and W eed Avenue 1«:M 4:30 P.M. 3:M P.M. The skit was the most exciting part of the j>ep assembly.
