Francis W alters, the shop
teacher is going to stay an hour
and a half after school one night
each week to help some of the
girls in girl's shop
The fourth penod girls shop
class has 2b girls enrolled which
is large for a shop class Some of
the girls are taking shop for the
first tim e, and they don't know
very much about working with
wood and shop equipment
To make m atters worse some
of the girls have branched out
into plastics This makes it even
harder to help everyone that
needs help
Walters thinks that an hour
and a half after school one night
a week will help the girls tre
mendously
Rooks Outstanding
In Cross Country
Two very envied members of
the VHS Cross-country team this
year happen to be rooks. Kelly
Smith and Jeff Curl
These boys have been placing
in 2nd and 3rd place. "When you
can outrun Juniors and Seniors
you re running O K " If a Junior
or Senior were asked about this
they would say they are just
letting the rooks win to make
them feel good
When these two fellows aren't
competing with the other team,
they are always competing ag
amst one another for 2nd and 3rd
position
Kelly and Jeff deserve a lot of
credit, because it s hard to be a
rook, running in 2nd and 3rd
position, with those mean upper
classmen right at their heels
The Student Council meeting
was called to order by President
Steve Johnston October 17 The
flag salute was lead by Dewey
Conroy , and .mnutes dispensed
with
Under old business, Arthur
Parrow , principal brought up
the fact that someone was to
contact the police for Thursday-
night for escort for the ser
pentine There was discussion on
the floor, but no im m ediate
action was taken
Under new business, three
petitions were presented to the
council One from the Freshman
class for a cake raffle on the 19.
and one from the Language Club
for a Halloween P arty Both
petitions were tabled because of
lack of organization The other
petition was from the cheer
leaders to sell Homecoming
buttons at 50 cents each The
petition was passed
Also under new
business,
Dewey Conroy brought up the
fact that either two or three
juniors sprayed black spray
paint on the senior sign, and
something should be done about
it It was decided to have a
meeting of all Junior and Senior
class officers, advisors and A r
thur Parrow to decide what
should be done
Then Parrow made mention
that this year's Student Council
isn't the representation as ex
pected and action should be
taken by taking roll at every
meeting
A motion was made and the
meeting was adjourned
Respectfully submitted

Halloween Promotes
Student Activities
Halloween is in the air at VHS
and many classes and organi
zations are busily planning par
ties and other activities
Most of these students are
planning parties, but however
there have been some hints of an
entire class going trick-or
treatmg
Along with cold days, autumn
leaves, and pumpkin patches
Halloween also brings on the
practical jokers It s hoped that
with all our activities that are
taking place that everyone
young and old w ill have a very
happy Halloween
