THE ART SHOW, held this year at the Masonic
Temple, featured several demonstrations of
handcrafts. Among them were leatherwork, pot­
tery, weaving and oil painting as shown above.

Marge Trahan
Visits Family
Marge Trahan flew to Colora­
do Springs, Colorado where she
spent two weeks visiting with her
son and fam ily, M r. and Mrs.
Vince Hamm, Amy and Sara.
While there, they visited Cripple
Creek, an old mining town where
they saw a drama "The Star
Crossing” at the Gold Bar Room
Theater in the Imperial Hotel.
The auto races and the Gold Cup
motorcycle races were much en­
joyed. Vince who races took his
mother on a ride on his cycle.
They visited the Garden of the
Gods where they dined with the
JC's in an open air building, ate
out of tin plates and drank from
tin cups, while entertained with
liVe music and a show put on by
the JC's.
Mrs Trahan met with the
childrens babysitter, Mrs. Jen­
kins, who had also babysat for
Matt Dillon’s (Jim Arness) chil­
dren a few years ago. “ A lovely
person whom I ’ll never forget,”
she remarks.
The highlight of the trip was a
fam ily birthday celebration for
Mrs. Trehan and her grand­
daughter whose birthdays are
the same day, July 12. They all
dressed up to enjoy dinner
ending with a butterfly cake. It
was reported Amy was five but
the other age was omitted.

Swim Lessons Will
Be Given At Pool
A two week session for be­
ginning swimmers will be of­
fered at Perry's Basketball
Camp from August 6 through
August 17. Sessions will be from
10 to 10:45 a m Monday through
Friday, and are open to boys and
girls six years of age and older.
Call 429-3222 to register. There
will be a $5 fee for the lessons.
The Vernonia Seniors would
like to thank the ladies who came
in Saturday and Sunday and
made our visitors welcome and
helped at the center. Their
donated time and efforts were
appreciated.
There were approximately 200
guests who dropped in, to rest,
brouse, or visit. The Seniors
enjoyed them all. They were
from far and near.
Many members have been
coming in to pay their member­
ship. We hope more will come in
and bring their cards up to date,
before the end of August.
There are orders ahead for
rolled papers and could use more
volunteer help to get them out.
The flea market could use
more items also. With school
starting soon, clothing and
shoes would be appreciated.
Don’t forget Dr. Joel Keller,
the foot Doctor will be at the
Vernonia Clinic Friday, August
3, 17, and 31.

Hansen and M r and Mrs. Steve
Hanson were at Shute Park in
Hillsboro Saturday for a family
reunion on Mrs Hansen's side
There were 37 in attendance.
The Shalmon Libels were in
Salem Sunday to attend a Polled
Herford Cattleman’s Picnic.
Miss Sherry Lynn made her
appearance early WEdnesday
morning, July 25, when Mr. and
Mrs. James Price, Mist, became
the proud parents of a 6 lb. 10 oz
baby girl.
Gary Garlock left Saturday to
spend a week with his grand­
parents, the Ed Simmons at
Cannon Beach HBis mother,
Mrs. Larry Garlock took him
down.
The Bud Hemeons were in
Portland Saturday and visited
the Jim Wilsons
Mr. and Mrs Roy Kyser were
in Vernonia Friday evening and
attended the coronation of the
Friendship Jamboree Court.
Their daughter Connie was a
princess on the court. Sunday the
family was at Estacada at the
Les Closner home for a Mist
Young People’s Reunion. At­
tending were former residents,
M r. and Mrs Bud Howsy, De­
troit, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Roeser,
Eugene, M r. and Mrs. Pete Hill,
Gresham and Mr. and Mrs.
Russell Stuve, Beaverton and
their families.
Ed Condit of Westport, ac­
companied by M r. and Mrs.
Babe Powers of Pocatello, vis­
ited at the Walter Mathews
Friday morning. Mr. Powers is a
cousin of Ed Condit and Grace
Mathews. He attended Vernonia
High School when he was a
sophomore living with the H er­
bert Condit fam ily during that
year. M r. and Mrs. Donald
Saxton, Walter, Beth Ann and
Connie of Lodi, California, vi­
sited the Ray Garlocks over the
weekend. M r. Saxton is a neph­
ew of Mrs. Garlock. The Lloyd
Garlocks were dinner guests
Saturday evening. The Garlocks
and their guests enjoyed a picnic
dinner and later boating and
fishing at Fishhawk Lake, Sun­
day. M r. and Mrs. Garlock
returned last Monday from visi­
ting the Bern Bliss fam ily at
Milton Freewater over Sunday.
Also visiting the Bliss’ were their
daughter, the Janies Loudahl
fam ily of Redland, Calif.
Wednesday evening visitors
at the Charles Sundland home
were the Walter Mathews. F ri­
day the Sundlands were at the
Portland International Airport
to meet Mrs. Ethel Piety of
Laguna Beach, California. They
later enjoyed dinner at the
Chinese Garden Restaurant. The
Sundlands and guest were in
Portland, Sunday, at the home of
the Richard Stratton for a Hock-
man fam ily reunion with 18 des­
cendents were present^
Mrs. Marge McGinnis'and Jim
Sears, Vernonia, visited the Cas­
per Serby fam ily Saturday eve­
ning. E arlier in the day the
Serbys attended the Friendship
Jamboree parade and on Friday
evening attended the Coronation
at the Vernonia High School.
Their daughter Vickie was a
princess.

Bank debits for the eight
reporting banks including Col­
umbia county were down in June
1973, compared to June 1972, the
University of Oregon Bureau of
Business and Economic Re­
search has reported.
Debits for June 1973 totaled
$24,377,000. For May, 1973, the
total was $26,975,000 and for June
1972 the total was $27,204,000
Oregon, with 422 banks re ­
porting, had a percentage de­
crease of 3.6 in June 1973, as
compared with May 1973, and a
22.7 percentage increase in June
1973, as compared with June
1972.
Total bank debits for June
1973, came to $8,400,460,000. For
M ay 1973, the to ta l* was
$8,716,409,000 and for June 1972,
the total was $6,844,293,000.
