Oskins were honored, July 7 at an open house in celebration of their Golden Wedding anniver sary. The affair was given by their daughters. Mrs J.W. Aid- rich and Mrs Nancy Roe at the Aldrich home in Portland with 32 persons in attendance. The Oskins were married. July 7, 1923 in Evansville, Indiana. They lived in Indiana till the early ’50’s, then moved to Phoe­ nix, Arizona where they lived for seventeen years with Vernonia becoming their home in 1967 The Oskins have only the two daugh­ ters, and six grandchildren. Heart Rebekah Lodge No. 243 Thursday evening, June 28 She was accompanied by June Bartow, Marshal of the Rebekah Assembly. Other officers introduced and welcomed with Vivian Puett and June Bartow were I^igh W il­ kins, Warden of the Rebekah Assembly; Mertie DeBast, R ai­ nier, D. Deputy Pres, of District 5A, Gertrude Schalock, Verno­ nia, D.Deputy Pres, of District 5B, and other appointive com­ mittee members of the Rebekah Assembly. After the formal introductions, Sister Puett was presented with an orchid corsage by Irm a Chance, N.G. of Mt. Heart Re­ bekah Lodge, who then read an original poem written by Flo r­ ence Akers, P.N.G ., who had dedicated it to the president, Sister Puett. Later in the meeting six mem­ bers of Mt. Heart gave a tribute to the president, Sister Puett. She was presented with a gift of a ceramic swan, her emblem, and a gift of money for her project which is a covered walkway for the Oddfellows Home. Patricia Goodman, who had drawn a large picture of a swan, later presented her drawing to the president. During the meeting the mem­ bers present participated in an impressive re-obligation cere­ mony. June Ray, P.N.G. and Vice-Grand pro-tem, led ih giv­ ing the obligation. Sister Puett had the honor of presenting 25-year Rebekah je ­ wels to Reatha Horn and Irene Meyer of Mt. Heart Lodge. She also presented Gertrude Scha­ lock with her D. Deputy Presi­ dent’s commission. Gertrude Schalock read a poem in honor of Rebekah and Arlie Emmons, Pat Goodman and Gertrude Schalock took part in a short comedy skit. Evelyn Heath reported that eight of the lodge members had attended the District 5 meeting at Rainier June 23 and that Reatha Horn had been elected chairman, and Florence Akers secretary for next year. The 1974 meeting will be held in Vernonia at which time Mt. Heart will celebrate its 50th anniversary. Sister Vivian Puett gave a most interesting report of her aims, projects and program and thanked the lodge for the many courtesies shown her. Leigh Wilkins of Aloha, W ar­ den of the Rebekah Assembly, and June Bartow of Stayton, Marshal of the Rebekah Assem­ bly also responded with a few words. Visitors from Clatskanie, R ai­ nier, Forest Grove and Aloha also had a few words to say. Members were happy to have twenty visitors present and also to welcome back Lesta Garner who had been ill for several months. A special thank you is ex­ tended to the musician of the evening Emma Baisley of La France Rebekah Lodge of Clats­ kanie, who answered an “SOS" call when the musician was unable to be present. Before the meeting a dinner honoring the president was held at the Spar Tree Cafe, Sisters Vivian Puett and June Bartow were overnight guests at the home of Bill and Reatha Horn.
