Year's Report
Given by VPD
In a summary report for the
year 1972 and year ending June,
1973 as to the activities of the
Vernonia Police Department as
submitted under the signature of
Jack Cunningham, Chief of Po
lice. burglary was the largest
source of trouble during 1972 but
in the first six months of 1973,
larceny has outstripped this by a
2 to 1 ratio.
There were 13 burglaries in
1372 with only eight cases of
larceny that year, dropping
down to four auto thefts. To date
(June, ’72) there have been 14
cases of larceny with six cases of
burglary and one of auto theft.
During the period January-
June, 1973, 14 arrests were made
with six being for D U IL ’s, fol
lowed by four disorderly con
ducts; one crim inal homicide; 1
menacing; 1 harassment; and 1
violation probation (auto theft).
Despite the apparent increase
in crim e in some areas, it should
be noted that, although the city
has grown in population, thereby
increasing the probability curve,
the per capita cost for law
enforcement in the city of Ver
nonia is $18.24 compared to the
average cost in the area of $21.74
for this period.
